VERY SELFISH CARAVANERS

Hi I live close to Greenhill Lake at Ararat and went for a drive to see how many caravans there and there was quite a few as it only costs $5 a night to camp there.
I was very disappointed at one van that had pulled up next to a public picnic table and put there awning out over the top of it so no one else can use it this is very greedy as there is only 2 tables near the toilet region so its people like them who are selfish that spoil it for everyone else

If I was camped there and looking for a table to use I would go and use it anyway

If they did not like that then tough, it is provided for the public to use.

just my take on selfish attitudes like that.

This happens in many places, also clotheslines strung over/ around the picnic table shelter. If there is a time-limit on length of stay, these people ignore that too. They give us all a bad name.

Reminds me of the time that I threaded my way thru the other vans & pulled up beside a tap at Daly Waters in 2000.

I was just connecting my hose when another camper came up with her kettle & informed me that that was the only tap in the campground.

Oops!    (quickly put the hose away & used my water tanks).

There are some pig ignorant people out there.

It is people like this that give all GN's a bad name. Most of the people that do this are probably not GN's anyway. I have heard that this area is getting a not so good name of late. Spoke to a lady that lived near Ararat, now a GN, but will no longer camp there after her MH was broken into twice. A shame if this is what is happening. She had her own take on why things are becoming the way they are.
Have not camped there so cannot comment.

It's unfortunate that some people only have consideration for themselves. This of course applies in all walks of life, not only in our area of camping.

I believe if a charge is levied by the authority that owns or administers the area, some of that money should go towards an Inspector or Ranger to inspect the site, preferably on a daily basis.

We camped at Pilliga Bore just recently and one caravaner had set up alongside the only picnic table in the camp area and completely monopolised it, there is nearly always one very selfish person in every campsite.

I totally agree with KFT, the facilities are there to be shared by everyone, I have no shame in walking up and plonking my bum at the picnic table if it's not actually being used at the time.

Digressing slightly = ad people who leave their rubbish behind annoy the living daylights out of me !

We camped at that lovely little campground at Salt Water Creek in the Ben Boyd National Park and came upon about two dozen empty stubbies and cans nicely stacked at the base of a tree.

No bins there and peeps too lazy to cart them out.

We have a heavy duty gar bag on the A- frame for all our rubbish..............so did the right thing and carted their rubbish out as well. Grrrr !!

cheers from TechnoGypsy

and then I come on this forum and its like everyone is a saint?

maybe rsoles don't use forums?

when I was up on the Grampians over easter I was trying to get a spot at the Plantations Campgrounds.. was pretty full as you could imagine...

but in one area there was room but this F****** and his mate blocked the roundabout with one of their cars so no one else could get in although there was room..

it was tight, but I got in with some sensational reversing...

but their car was across the roundabout nosed up to the fire.. and all their S*** was also around the fire place... no one else could use it although they were mainly gone all day..

what a pair of ***** furious

then.. get this..

when one of them left and went home the other Guy and his family started to try and talk to the rest of us scumbags ... offering us food etc etc etc.. before his mate went home he wouldn't even look at us..

needless to say, when he tried to say "gday" to me one morning I pretended not to hear him wink

Seen caravaners do the same in Caravan Parks. Managers couldn't care less.

Had the same issue at De Grey River in WA not too long ago - guy rocked up, parked right next to the picnic shelter, which was also a Wi Fi hot spot, set up and then produced a generator, which he ran continuously for the three days he was there ! He didn't care that people wanted to use the area for contacting family via internet, he just glared at people if they said anything - said he had to keep his beer cold!

Thank You Billeeeeeee.

I was reading this thread and thinking how selfish people were, and how the saints were so critical. All quite depressing really, then along came Billeeeeeee, and put the whole thing back in perspective.

Thanks also for the photo.

I believe it is is wrong to call them selfish.

Selfish is doing something without regard for other people and their feelings.

Like too many people in this world today these people don't look beyond their blinkered eyes as to how their actions effect other people. This is not selfish as they don't realise the wrong they are doing.

Myopic is a much more apt term.

If you go and advise them of their error in not considering other people and then they fail to correct the situation then they can be classified as selfish.

Cheers

Jon.

I'd Love to see him in a NO Generator Site...

Oh! Please! Some of us are medically diagnosed Myopic and it is a real problem in daily life when very severe. But I do see your point and use "short sighted" as a term of denigration myself from time to time.

May be "Space Thieves" used in the same idea of "oxygen thieves" and "protein thieves" are similar - so endeth my rant. Open to all now to criticise me.smilebiggrinconfuseno
