Maybe Forgotten, But not gone...yet!

Hi,

Some may remember me and Poppy from the beginning of this year....we bought a beautiful totally self contained Jayco caravan in March 2013, all set to go traveling. well crap happens and things dont always go to plan. with money and health problems we sold the van ( after never using it) in April this year. We are still getting our house ready for sale, just laid new flooring, and have nearly completed the carport. I now have painting outside to do, all the inside painting has been done. The house is looking lovely, the only two rooms not renovated are the main bathroom and the laundry, but we are leaving those. We should get the house on the market by Christmas we hope.

Then we have to find a smaller house with no steps, sell our Prado for a sedan or wagon, as I cant get into and out of the 4WD without pain anymore. We still do plan on going traveling, but it will be via the car and staying in cabins etc. No more caravaning for us, which breaks our hearts, but fate has stepped in and we have to deal with what we are given.

I hope you dont mind if I come back now and again, I find this web site so enjoyable, and its nice to talk to people my own age.

Grams

Sorry to hear of your disappointments. I doubt very much if anyone would have any objections to you popping in and saying hi ... the more the merrier.

Thank you everyone for the most warm and generous welcome back.

When I was shopping one day a couple of months back I saw two caravans pull up in a dirt area on Florence St, in Port Pirie, SA. They had Grey Nomad stickers on their vans, and it made me smile to know your out there somewhere. The two couples walked across the road to a cafe, they also had a little white dog (Im not sure if there was one or two dogs), they sat outside enjoying their drinks. So who ever it was welcome to my neck of the woods lol.

I have always believed in we have to deal with what we are given, and if that means we dont get to travel this country by caravan, then so be it. We will travel it, but by car...maybe even going places you cant take a van. It is still going to be fun, we are still going to see all the places we want to, just not now. We just have to get this house sold and buy another. I hope that will be soon, houses around where we live seem to be selling quickly, so I want to get this done asap. Im just so tired of the stress and I am physically and emotionally exhausted. I want to sit in one place and not have things to do, appointments to go to, you know life things. Poppy just wants to retire and never look at another truck again, he's gone from loving his job to counting down the days till he's home again, and hating the day he has to go back to work. He drives trucks up north in SA, but he cant retire until we buy the next house, so the sooner we get this over with the better.

Thanks again
Grams

Wander down to Globe Oval now and again and also over the bridge to nowhere LOL and often there are people there to have a chat.

Even though I came from Pirie I still camp across the river when visiting.

If you see a nomad and you need a chat, introduce yourself and be prepared to buy a coffee and spend an hour or so and travel Australia through others eyes. Also it will give you information of what to see and where to go when you do your trips.

Offer help to the visitors of the town and advise of the places around that they can see such as Germein and Aligator gorge Pt Broughton and down the coast to Kadina etc or over the ranges to Gladstone and Wirabarra.

Be a local greeter and sharer of good will and you will not only meet some nice people but will get a thrill from meeting people living your dream.

Sorry about your disappointments and bad health but still get our when you can, just a trip to meet and greet can fill your day and you will give as well as receive great comfort.

Regards
Brian

Life`s a bugger sometimes and just turns you in a different direction , sound like you still have the mojo to travel and I hope you continue to enjoy things to come . Maybe a bit of a setback now but I am sure you will rise to the occasion .

All the best Grams. Welcome back and keep popping in. I haven't been here for ages because of 'this and that' but felt it was OK to come back.

Thank you everybody...I feel like crying, sorry I am just emotionally on edge and I have no one to talk to. Poppy is only home for two days every two weeks, so it's just me and my youngest daughter. She is nearly 18 but I don't want to add to her burden while doing exams soon.

Thank you, just being able to talk, chat, laugh and cry is an outlet. I so need it.

All the more reason for you to go down the street and seek out those horrible nomads and ask if you can sit and chat.

Check the bakery in the main street or the food shops by the cop shop and see if there is a rig there and if so go look for some old ragged vagabond that looks like they need a chat

Look for the camera over the shoulder the shopping bags or the crocs on the feet etc (your will learn the signs of bliss and contentment LOL) and ask if they are travelers.

Find a community group in your area where you can spend a day or two a week volunteering to help others and fill your day with laughter and fulfillment.

One of the things that really endears a town to me is when someone from the town comes around as a meet and greet with some brochures for the local area and is prepared to have a chat. I have seen this in a few towns and it is very comforting. Talk to the info center and see if they will allow you to take information sheets around to travelers and just have a bag that is easy to carry or even just in a purse. Be prepared for a fw cups of coffee and tea though as most will want you to sit and talk for a while.

Perhaps folks on here can let you know when they are in the area and you can meet up that way as I know many do this when sitting at home base.

When your Poppy is home see if you can do a few short trips around the local area to gain information (oops get out of the house) and also to see what your area has to offer as most people say they have seen a lot of Australia but little of their immediate area. Check out the rest stops in the area and also perhaps the caravan parks so you can advise any visitors you meet what your evaluation of the parks etc are like to help them find their next stop.

I hope you find some way to fill your days with pleasure and when the old Poppy comes home you will have good stories to tell him as well as store all the places you have been told to visit as you do your travels when you can.

Regards
Brian

Hi Brian,

I don't live in Port Pirie, I live in a tiny town the other side of the Flinders Ranges. I only go into Pirie once a fortnight to take my daughter and myself shopping. My days are filled with things that need to be done and things I like to do, so filling a day is easy.

In our town everyone is friendly to travellers and will answer any questions they have, it's a great town, but unfortunately too far away from our Drs so that is why we are leaving and moving closer to my oldest daughter.

No Worries Grams, I though I saw that your lived in Pirie.

Lots of nice places on the other side as well.

Glad you have things to keep you busy as it makes the day go quicker.
