We picked this up at a caravan show a few years back. It's the horizontal version of the old car scissor jack, it's job is to lock the wheels and act as a chock.
The bonus is it has a place for a small padlock which adds to security.
I hope you are all well.

I also love gadgets, and yes I have a similar unit that I purchased from Award RV in Ferntree Gully.
It works well, and has provision for a lock, but I suspect it would be relatively easy to rip out sideways, as they say it will just slow down the amateur thief, I doubt if it would slow don the professionals much.

In thinking about your post Plendo, I recon a 5mm chain through the wheel and gizmo may stop that problem. Worth a try. But im a big bloke and put all my weight on the handle to try to move it (as you suggest) it bent the handle a bit, so probably a bit more secure the tighter you bind on the tyres.
I hope you are well.

I must admit Explorer I have never done that, all that a determined thief would need is a spike and bingo one flat tyre and no van. However for extra security I have suggested a chain around the gizmo and wheel.
Safe travels

From a security point of view a bicycle locking cable through both wheels slows things down markedly. I do like the scissor chock though, definitely stops any movement of the van. Very rare thief that works any harder or longer than necessary so any increase in security provides an exponential reduction in theft opportunity generally.

Hey Phil I designed my own anti theift device which works a treat. Take a look at this little baby I use on my van. Central Locking Slip in Keyed Pin
They can let down the tyres all they want. They can even try to remove the wheels all they want. But most of all if they do drag the van - it will go around in circles... The horizontal bar is solid through to the brake drums.
Keeps the theives at bay until - someone would notice...

Hey Bob
No its mounted through the chassis with one way - high tensil nuts -
I had to be sure it was exactly right before tightening.
If anyone try's to undo - the left faces (curved) with a normal wrench. (need a special socket to undo)
That was the original Layout No1 version -
No2 has solid tube out from the van - with the same solid tube into the wheels.
Have another /same chassis bracket - forward of the wheels also - For storing when travelling
Also acts as a guard for things flying up on the left side.
I dont have to reach far or store or position.
Cheers

I reckon for plain rims make a plate with the pattern of the wheel nuts and place on to the wheel,
If it was all solid bar it would deter most thieves I am sure,
you could always add used wheel bearing grease to it.lol
