Advice on locations on Nth Coast NSW

If you are a fisherman, try looking at Iluka, south of Ballina, small fishing village, pub, bowling club, general store. Further down anywhere just north of Coffs Harbour, Woolgoolga, Moonee Beach all loverly. Coffs and Sawtell are good spots, plenty to do, close to Dorigo Nat Park. If you are into horse racing Grafton has it's Cup Carnival in mid July and Coffs second week in August. Not too wrapped in Port, too busy.

If you are looking for a caravan park then Woolgoolga has a couple of great ones. I always think Woolgoolga Beach Caravan Park is the best as you have the beach on one side and the little shopping centre right across the road which has IGA and anything else you need. Woolgoolga is one of the nicest unspoilt towns on the NSW coast. There are klm's of beach to wander along in the area and 40min drive to Coffs Harbour.

Another great caravan park is Moonee Beach Caravan Park which is also right next to a beach.

South of Ballina, Dalmeny is a really good spot. Good CP, cheap in off peak, great views and a really good spot to do a lot of exploring around the area.

North, if you don't have to be by the sea and you don't have pets with you I would recommend the CP at Grafton. $22 per night all year around and it is like a 5star resort. Once again a great base to explore all the areas around there, from the coast to the ranges.

Thats the Gateway Village C/P..

Also in Grafton is the Greyhound Track and the Showgrounds, both have dump points.

The Greyhound track is a little quieter and you can stay there as long as you like..

The Showgrounds are closer to town but they do have a lot of activity there including Speedway from time to time.

Thanks for that Bob, I could not think of the name of it when I posted. I stayed there for three weeks not so long ago. Old age setting in I think.

It was Doug, and if anyone wants to stay there and tells them Bob Vickers sent them it will save them money..:)

BTW we are at Moama just slouching about if anyone is in the area..:)

We lived in Coffs for 10 years. Sold in August and have been at Corindi van park - dog friendly - ever since. Agree re Woolgoolga. Nice town. Maybe cold and windy - very exposed to the beach - colder months.

Sawtell? Great is you want a main street full of boutiques and cafes, all under the magnificent fig trees. (we owned a cafe here a few years back) Bowlo and RSL club right next door.

Go to the Northcoastholidayparks.com.au website. These parks are all crown land parks and so well run. Corindi has everything, including brand new amenities, but there only one corner store! Red Rock is located on an estuary and good fishing, lovely parklands. Spoilt for choice in Coffs, really.

We are only just starting out, so I will be asking the same questions in time. BUt if you want local Coffs info, let me know.

It really does look like lovely country

Woolgoolga looks like the place so far but I am interested in all suggestions.

I appreciate advice from those who know the area. I am sure we will have a great time getting there as well

I got the impression he was looking for something on the north coast.

If you are hopping up the north coast and not staying fu ll weeks at the parks, have a look at the North Coast Holiday Parks They have a card like a coffee shops loyalty card. If you stop in a park on the 6th night you get the 7th night free. Worked for me. I stopped at some on the way up to Qld and when on my way south I got my free night at Coffs Harbour.

hi pete, could you give us your impression of the Clog barn caravan park. I seen it on one of

c&m discs ,did not seem very big ...

We stayed one night at the Glog Barn, and yes it was neat and tidy, but just to close to the highway for us. We moved down to the park near the beach, and it was much more comfortable, but it is dearer, at $38/night when we were there.

Brooms Head caravan park is on the beach south of Yamba, accessed from Maclean. It is a great spot with Yuraygir NP next door, good walks, great beach, $25 per night powered grass site. Maclean is an interesting little town, very Scottish, on the beautiful Clarence River.

If you want somewhere right on the river and great if you are into fishing, head towards Yamba and turn at Palmers Island towards the Big4 Salt Water - there is another caravan park before you get to the turn off for Salt Water - I think it is called Fishermans Haven. We checked it out recently and looks great if you are into fishing - campsites right on the river bank - no access to the river that I could see for boats, but you can throw your line in from the benches along the river bank. Unless you are into jumping pillows, water slides and flying foxes, I would not bother going further towards Salt Water or into Yamba itself. Costs and details on the link below

Near Brooms Head there is also Sandon River - turn just before you get to Brooms - beautiful river - National Park camping right on the ocean where the river meets the sea - about a 10 minute drive from Brooms Head. Great place for canoeing/kayaking - mouth of the river is dangerous, so avoid that area. See link below
