yes I use a clamp I got of ebay similar in design to the old ice tongs cheap/ visible / better than nothing but not a guarantee to stop theft only to make it harder for thieves and there are a lot better on the market that cover the wheel nut etc but the price rises as well brian
I also use a hitch lock and lock my chains into it

I found that the 'tong' type wouldn't fit properly, as the curved bit at the back clashed with the electric drum brake housing.
So, I use an ARK Compact one - the two tongues are basically parallel and squeeze together with a lockable screw winder - the outside leg fits over one of the wheel nuts to stop the wheel from being unbolted - cost about $90.

Wheel clamps will deter amateur thieves but a crowbar removes them in less than 2 seconds....much quicker than using a key. They are better than nothing and you may get a discount on insurance. If you van does get stolen when one is fitted, I guess you'd have to prove to the insurance company that it was fitted when it was stolen and if you'd forgotten to fit it and it was stolen then you'd get no insurance.
The wheel clamps used by local councils etc are much heavier and resistant to crowbars or battery powered angle grinder which cut padlocks like butter.(silently too)
I really think the chances of getting your van stolen are far less than getting your car stolen.
