If only more people would learn about their rig before hitting the road.. smile

I think it is very important to know your rig and how everything works it can save you heaps of money and time finding out that all you needed to do was flick a switch..

Honestly after reading some of the questions on this forum there are peeps out there that should be locked in their yard to protect them from themselves.. cry

Met a lot of clever people over the years who know the science to everything but had problems scratching their acehole lol . I believe that knowing a little of everything is better than not knowing anything at all and to know , one must ask and there is no such thing as a silly question.

That one question you ask and get an answer for may be the answer that saves your pudding down the road lol..

A question is only silly if someone thinks they know it all.

Most of us are prepared to assist as in real terms we all start from scratch.

I refrain for offering advise lots of times as there are too many smart Alec know it alls on most forums.

Many new members don't know about the search facility and often need more help when they are not conversant in the field.

Many of us have dealt with electrics/ electronics/ mechanical etc most of our lifes while some have been pencil pushers and office workers.
office workers would walk all over you for accounting and stock control etc as well as a computer person has detailed knowledge of IT.

Never knock a persons skill level as tomorrow they may have the knowledge that you need to solve your problem and they may decide that they are not prepared to help you.

One of lives challenges is to sort the wheat from the chalf and to decide who knows and who thinks he knows.

I don't know if it's still the case today, but 30 years ago in South Korea one needed to pass an exam which included questions about the mechanical functions of an automobile (including how the engine works) before being granted a driving licence.

Personally, I would expect that anyone who intends to live on the road would prepare themselves by accumulating as much DIY information as they possibly could. Self sufficiency could be vital for survival. I know that WEA offer courses pitched at beginners, and perhaps there are others.

6 years ago when Cherly and I were just putting our thoughts together about starting out on the road realized that there was a lot of things that I needed answers for. So I posted the questions on the forum with the comment "they may sound silly questions but I need the answers so we don't make mistakes, etc"

the response we got to our silly questions was just amazing. To see the answers that came back showed us that no matter how silly they may sound there are valid ones to the person asking them. So as far as I am concerned there is no such thing as a silly question. The silly thing in this equation is the one that make a fool of him/her self. So often the answers that came quite often answer other people questions that they have not got around to asking.

there is another aspect of asking questions on this forum is that it brings out the very best of it.

Anyway that's my rant on the topic and it's about some people need to think before they open there mouth or have they forgotten that they were once in the same place once.

This is a mostly wonderful forum. With my physical difficulties I find it quite tough to do the normal stuff I use to. Now I ask "silly" questions to save having to do things more than once, and some things not at all. That is where the GN forum comes in. I have a need to understand why and how everything works. Just can't trust just because it works. biggrin

Geez some of you are quick to jump on the bandwagon.. I'm not talking about questions that are asking for information of interest not only to the poster but also to others. I'm talking about the ones where someone asks :-

How far is it from Nambour to Gympie along the Bruce Highway.. If they can't work that type of thing out...like I said they should be confined to their backyard..

I recently got caught behind a bloke towing a large van on a narrow road that stopped in the middle of the road to take a photo of some emus totally unconcerned that I was held up behind him.. cry

I am the first to offer helpful advice to anyone here and sometimes even more.. smile

The same old whine confuse biggrin because your mate's feelings got hurt when it was pointed out he lacked very basic electrical .& electronic knowledge

I say this as some one who has WORKED with electricals since 1948 & & Electronics since 1951 when I started servicing

electronic equipment

In fact one of the few who specilised in that field at that time.

[How much experience have YOU had with Electrics ,Electronics, mechanicals over YOUR life???

Dear Testosterones,

As a 40 something female, that ultimately and totally wants to know how my van works, who will be on the road permanently next week, I say one thing.

i read Techies before I read everything else. This forum has been HUGE, as in MASSIVE in my learning of many things technical. And as a forum, far easier to read and communicate than others. I ask questions, I search questions, many are out dated already. And I also don't take it all as gospel, but note it down and research elsewhere too, cos that's my nature.

You can argue all you want, but you're spoiling it for someone like me, that relies on good and honest opinions. It all seems to go down to this....
