G'day. I know this subject has come up before but a search cannot find it. Has anyone had the problems with the drivers seat going down fixed? A dealer in Townsville confirmed the defect and that Mazda know about it. I have now arrived back at home (Darwin) and saw our dealer. They too confirmed that Mazda were aware of the problem and not to do anything about it at this time. I have contacted Mazda Australia but so far have not heard back. So starts the paper war. If anyone has had this fixed by Mazda it should help me

I have a Ford Ranger with the same issue, I approached Ford and they told me there was no fix at this time. Yeah I think its a good move to get the road safety people on board, may get some action.

G'day the problem is with the drivers seat going down. I have a 2013 bt50 delivered in sept 13. Today I received a call from Mazda Aust advising that they do know of the problem but are waiting for Mazda Japan to fix same. They will not fit a replacement seat as they fear the replacement may have the same problem. Also advised me that the Ford Ranger has the same problem. They claim that they do not know when it will be fixed. Not a good advert for either car. I can only hope that enough people jump up and down until it is fixed

We were the last ones to raise this I think. Our story mirrors yours. you might like to check my post under "update to Mazda Bt50 seat Problem" Baz had provided a link for complaints etc to the appropriate government bodies. We followed the procedures with an eventual reply that it wasn't deemed as a safety issue and havent had enough complaints to warrant further investigation. We still continue to this date to email and phone Mazda Australia who say mazda Japan are working on the problem. We have offered our seat as a local example and like you , our offer was rejected. We ask almost every BT 50 owner we meet if they have the problem? Yes is the answer. All I can think is if more people complained they might take it seriously. It's a great stong car, such a shame this is happening.

So frustrating guys, yes all should complain to FORS. I can't believe how slack they are if that is the case.

It's a mechanical system. You hop in and use the lever to adjust it to your preferred height. You set your mirrors to the view from this seat position. Drive along, seat goes down, therefore the view you see in your mirrors is now different. This is why we feel it is a safety issue, not to mention the discomfort and frustration of having to keep pumping it up.

Have the same problem with the Ranger XLT. Ford have been alerted but like Mazda have no fix for it at this time. Will keep you posted if I hear from Ford!
I believe the problem stems from the assembly of the lifting mechanism, that damages a small $2 part. However the unit is sealed (made in a way that cannot be serviced without destroying it), and costs several hundred dollars. Also several hours removing / replacing the seat, and removing / replacing the unit. The delay is caused by the suppliers working on a cost effective method of repairing it.
Try pricing the complete mechanism and you might get a shock.
They will eventually come up with a fix.

I have the same problem with my ranger 2013 ford have advised me a fix is about 6weeks away that was 3 months ago have said they will advise me when a fix has been sorted also if you do an oil change yourself on the 3.2 motor make sure you fill it back up with oil as soon as it has drained old oil out because if you leave it for half hour you will not have any oil pressure when you start up the oil pump mts with oil and doesn't prime itself the same for Mazda and ranger
