From time to time the subject of why is NSW so Expensive to rego a van and the question is asked what do they pay in other states . Well the attached may answer the question then all NSW van owners need to as their local member the same question or better still the various van clubs and motoring associations should band together and ask on mass WHY.
Not just CV's. I purchased a new Tug while in Queensland a few months back and had to register it at my daughters QLD address. On my return to VIC I changed it over to VIC. I applied for a part refund from QLD and when I got the cheque I ended up with change left over between the difference. There was so much difference.
I, as many/most people, would love to see a National register with Rego, Licence and Road Rules. There are many thousands of people travelling around this great country and it would make it all much easier.

Extremely high rego costs in NSW have been the rule for many years and there has been no consideration of the actual usage of vans on the road, with all the spy cameras that State Governments have on the roads and in Service stations monitoring us it would be a simple matter for Caravans and the like to pay a small rego fee say $10.00 and a small amount per 1000 klm traveled with a maximum set at a couple of hundred $, this could be done on a national basis and we could then also have a national registration scheme.

The refund is interesting. I sold a car to some one from Qld. The car was registered in WA. Contacted the WA Dept of Trans, explained the situation and asked for a refund of the balance as the plates were returned to WA and was promptly denied.

Another reason why states should be dismantled and the country operates as one.

I handed the QLD plates to Vic Roads then filled out the paperwork for refund, attached a letter explaining everything, sent it to QLD. Three weeks later and a FULL REFUND, not part, arrived. I was shocked really. It was a lot more than VIC too. No complaints from me.

There is a lot to do with what they classify the van as. In NSW they are classed as a Motor Vehicle not a Trailer When you wish to clarify the classification between something with a motor and that without a motor they just say that's it like or lump it and give you the bums rush . Seeing NSW is the state in the middle of the east coast maybe Queenslanders and Victorians should put into the bowl a contribution to repair out discussing roads as there is a lot of QLD and VIC registered vans on NSW Roads

Ok, How does one go about registering the van in Victoria if I live in Queensland. We have a son who lives in Shepperton, so we could use that address. does the van have to go through a inspection by the Vic. transport department. If so I would be up the creek not to mention 2000ks away.
Any clues would be greatly appreciated, to save a $$$$$

I would ask the Qld government what their position is when the rego is due and you are on the other side of the country and are required to have the vehicle inspected.
