Copper !, 2 & 3 depart Young for Jugiong

Well folks we have left Gary Kelly country but prior to that we took a visit to Iandra Castle just out of Young. Iandra was established in 1878 by George Greene, and consisted of 33,000 acres. In 1880the first double brick home was built and then in 1908, incorporated this building into a two story reinforced concrete homestead on the same foundations. Mr Green pioneered share farming and Iandra became a well known site of agricultural developments. The home is only open to the public six times a year and we where lucky enough to have the place open today. After this visit we moved on to Jugiong right on the river and plan to stay here for two nights. Free fire wood and fire buckets how better does it get.

Thank you Copper1 - a great photo. I was at Jugiong a few years ago when my daughter was playing polocrosse (in winter time) so a bit cool there on the flats but it was a lovely spot all the same. Keep well and happy camping.

What a magnificent castle! Never got to see that while I was there but I lived ($12 a week) in a flash house in town - Victorian style - with a circular drive and beautiful gardens. The owners were an elderly couple who turned the side veranda into a self-contained flat. I remember it well, including the little b/w Astor telly I rented sitting on top of the fridge. A young Peter Shanahan (2GB sports and Malcolm Elliott's sidekick on 2UW before that) arrived at 2LF to take over my job as well as the flat.
