Clearance between cooktop and Fridge

Our Transit van has a small fridge and a griller/oven mounted below the cooktop. We wanted to remove the small fridge and griller and substitute a larger fridge. The larger fridge, an Evakool platinum 110L is 815mm high. The available height to the underside of the cooktop is 840mm. I have just been told that a greater clearance is required (but not how much).

Does anyone know what the rule is, or whether there is in fact a rule?

IF you are mounting the fridge UNDER the cooktop then I don't see a problem as heat rises and only the radiated heat would be going down .. that would easily be controlled by putting a sheet of insulating material between them..

My thoughts exactly, but I also understand that rules are not always based on logic.

The cynic in me suggests that they might not want to do the job because I negotiated a keen price and they might be having 2nd thoughts.

How,

In my big rig (Avan Camper, for now) the fridge is fitted under the two burner stove with about the same clearance you mention, I.T.

I am going in tomorrow to see whether they can convince me. Their chances are not good.

They may see some difficulty getting the gas line up to the stave if there is not enough clearance. Check that one out ind see if you can work out something if that is looking like "too hard for them."

looking good for Tuesday. Another staff member suggested they remove the four feet and sit it on the floor. As they are only little plastic things, and nothing except the case will be in contact with the floor, they now believe they can do it. (I didn't even know it had feet).

I am hoping another problem does not arise on Tuesday.

Re the gas line to the cooktop: they just have to mount the fridge a bit further forward because there is a tap in the line. I question the merit of the tap being there because it is difficult to access, the gas only supplies the cooker and HWS (which we have never used), and we turn the gas off at the cylinder when not being used.

It is probably another rule.

The requirement is that each gas appliance has to have it's own isolating valve/tap so each appliance can be remover without affecting the whole installation..smile
