RE: Unfriendly Nomads

Put a group of teenagers round a table, and it is almost silent, they are all texting, or checking facebook, etc. Not much listening, as there is nothing worth listening to.

WHAT HAVE WE DONE !

I just wonder then why nomads don't try and include families who are trying to break or lessen the electronic age from taking over and is why they take them travelling camping etc are you saying that young people have nothing to offer ??if that's the case you shouldn't be using the internet and texting or using facebook as it is a modern advancement not developed by oldies, if your computer breaks down you will more than often find that one of these not worth talking to young people will be the ones to fix it for you it is a modern world and electronics have taken over our lives so I believe any family who takes the time to educate our kids by travelling camping etc should be welcomed to Happy hour and the respected oldies who they are supposed to look up to might just to refrain from there bawdy jokes for a short time, unfortunately aging is something we cannot avoid but I hope to hell I don't get grumpy like some members of the Greynomad clan, to say the teenagers have nothing to say that is worth listening too is really sad and wonder do you think the same of your kids and grandkids ??this is not aimed a any particular person but please don't have such a closed attitude

You will most likely find me playing with the kids than drinking with the oldies remembering those good old days. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the sitting having a drink with my peers but the kids bring so much joy. I spend nearly 12 months as a duty manager of a backpackers, worked peminant nightshift, now that was an eye opener for me but it was a whole lotta fun
cheers

Tezza n Tomoko, you misinterpret what I am saying. I am lamenting what has happened to the younger generations, the different expectations placed on them by marketing, peer pressure, etc.

I firmly believe the youth of today have it far harder than we did, in different ways. They are expected to know so much more, and to be in touch with everything.

I fully commend anyone who brings young people out into the real world, and encourages them and gives them a chance to be children. Yes they might annoy the "oldies", but isn't that what children are supposed to do if they are being children.

I fix my own computers. As technology changes, I try to learn the new technology. It isn't easy.

I really don't enjoy being around children. But hey if you and your children needed assistance I would knock others down in the rush to help.
