3 Way Refrigerator Serviceing Ceduna

Just on our way from Perth to The Flinders Rages. At Eucla at the moment.

I have a problem with our 3 way fridge running on gas and 12v  nothing is cooling down.  On 240v is OK.

Any  recomended service people in Ceduna for caravan fridges

Regards

Mike

Finding someone in Ceduna to service a 3 way fridge could be a challenge..smile

Take the lower side cover off the van behind the fridge and light it and see if the flame is nice and blue and crisp.. My guess is it will be blue and yellow or blue and fluffy..

you will need to get to it witha strong blast of compressed air and blow any dirt and dust and or spiderwebs out of the mixer tube and burner base..also try to get some air up or down the chimney tube above the burner and blow any soot or other obstruction out.. (you may need to take the top grill/cover off to get at it)..

relight it and see if the flame looks any better..

As for not getting cold on 12v there are a number of reasons for that including the wiring isn't able to cope with the load, bad connections etc. etc.,

BTW did it all work satisfactorily before you started your trip.????

Yes Done all the above. I  had  the fridge working perfectly till two days ago.  Wiring has previously been upgraded  replced by me when I first got the Avan.

Had the jet out and  checked for being clear (with a magnifier)   but I still think the flame is not big enough although it is burning  clean.

Regards

Mike

If you can get the jet out, boil it in a some water to clean it. If it's one of the newer type jets, DO NOT poke it with a pin or wire to clean it as you will damage the ceramic type insert. Generally the jets block up with wax and the boiling clears them.

I would suggest you would have a better chance of success in Port Augusta or Whyalla Mike, if you can hang on till then.

Fortunately the weather is pretty cool at the moment.smile

Problem solved.

Had another good poke  around inside the lower vent.   Tugged a couple of 12v wires and one came out of the  connector block it must have come loose and was just sittng there. Thats why I had 12volts on the meter and the indicator light was lit (only when I looked)  when I checked it OK, move off it and it was not connected.

Gas has come right. ?  Now working well.

I will pull it out when I get. Home. It is due for some TLC.

Thanks for your thoughts

Mike

For your info and anyone else that is interested...

A gas flame can look nice and blue but unless the inner light blue points are very sharp and crisp the flame value isn't hot enough and wont keep the fridge cold...

there are a few causes of this:-

1. the gas pressure is incorrect....... Change the regulator...... last resort..

2. There is an obstruction in the mixer tube and or burner......Clean by whatever method..Compressed air..pipe cleaner..piece of thin rope fluffed out at the end and twisted up into the burner tube..

3. The chimney is sooted up becoz the flame is/has been burning yellow... chimney brush..compressed air..home made pull through..

4. There is an obstruction in the gas injector/jet.... boil jet in soapy water and blow out with air..

The one thing to remember is that if your fridge works on one of the options it should work on the rest..

smilesmilesmile Hi. We had problems there last year. We googled refrigeration mechanics for ceduna. A guy come out to the caravan park. It was fixed in minutes. Try reviewing fridge technicians. I did a review for him. Great bloke.
