That's very scary. Rabies means goodbye unless treated immediately. Many dogs in the Philippines carry Rabies. You must get to a Hospital within hours for a course of injections. Many Filipinos die from Rabies each year. A young niece of mine died 2 years ago. She was married with 2 young children. Two reasons there are a lot of deaths is because people can't afford to attend a Doctor or Hospital or pay for the medication. Second reason is they go to what I call "Witch Doctors" who rub leaves and snake oil on the bite. This is what happened to my niece. I offered to drive her to Hospital, pay for the treatment, but no she insisted on the Witch Doctor treatment. No prize for guessing the end result. We attended her funeral about 2 weeks later....Silly girl..
Bats seem to be the main source of Rabies in Australia, and obviously in the U. S. also. If ever you are bitten by a bat, or an unhealthy looking dog, don't hesitate. Go to a Hospital IMMEDIATELY...

Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

Sheba, I did not do my homework, but you are partly right. A type of Rabies virus is found in bats in Australia. The Rabies vaccine is used for wildlife workers to protect them. There seems to be no incidents of Rabies being contracted from dogs in Australia, although most dogs in the Philippines have it.
