Hello all - just to let you all know about yet another scam. My sister's cousin advertised her old car for her and he received emails from a fellow 'working' on an oil rig near NZ - he would put the money in his account and when it was cleared he would send a truck to collect the car and it was to go to Darwin. The cousin did some further research and it proved to be a scam. I have actually heard that this happened to another couple of people - so here we go again.
Yep same here. Had to deposit some money in a Western Union Account. Told ******* my brother was in the AFP and would be contacted soon. He replied by admitting that I had found him out.
Can't help but dream of what one would do left alone with a baseball bat or the equivalent.

Exactly the same thing happened to my husband. We got a bit funny when he wanted to buy the car unseen and did not quibble about the price. He googled the particular persons name and got numerous hits about his "Activities" to put it nicely. This person seems to frequent Gumtree. A real shame that our Aussie one is being targeted to the point that people are getting scared to use it
I use Gumtree a bit. Usually helping the kids sell their cars. sometimes my junk. Every time I have advertised a car, in the next hour or less I get a text with some silly statement or offer. I just ignore them now. Do not even waste any time on them.
I have been wrecking a van lately that I bought for parts for my daughters car. Half the replies were from a long way away. Not sure how they thought I could send some of the stuff. They just see stuff on the smart phone and ask !!! However I have actually sent a part to Adelaide and to Perth and to Brisbane when the person was really interested. I opened a new account for people to put money into. Not linked like my other ones. Been OK. I take the money out and there is almost nothing left in it most of the time.
I have just posted a message to about a scam I have my caravan up for sale on this Grey Nomads for sale site and some one wants to pay for on Paypal so beware some ins going thought the site looking for any thing thats listed for sale and using Gmail
It's an old scam. If you are selling something substantial thru Gumtree or Trading Post, you will usually get a text from overseas first asking you to e-mail photos, after which they e-mail you back with the scam. I have standard e-mail I send to these scammers. I can't display it here or I will be banned from the Forum...

Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
I had a all valve A Class Guitar amplifier up for sale (great for rock and Blues)
Had a similar email, this guy was working on an oil rig and said it was a birthday present for his ailing grandmother ??????
We actually sold our camper-trailer to a member of the RAN who was currently in the Gulf on active duty. His wife came to inspect it, and we held it for them but they didn't pay till he arrived home.
At first we wondered if this was another scam, but glad we went ahead, lovely couple, we hope they are still happy with their purchase. Sometimes things turn out well!
