There is one on google - had one going myself, but lost it somehow - think it is under google maps - it is good - our one of Tassie was funny, couldn't see the island itself for the pins!!!!

jenhed Hi,

I use Ozi explorer coupled with raster maps works out a bit expensive but gives me a very detailed log of where I have been. You could link the roads or use "flags" for the town/location visited. The cost a few years ago was about $300. For both programs.

I downloaded a high res picture of OZ and 'paint ' on it - so much easier after trying to find an 'online' one! Google was fine for a while until it refused to keep following the roads and insisted on drawing straight lines bleh

Google maps is OK but the new version has a limited number of locations you can put on a map (9 I think it is) but you can choose to keep with the old version by going through the help section. I've never encountered the problem described by Spida, Google maps has always mapped the roads and calculated distance using the road distance rather than straight line distance. There are some problems saving, sharing and editing the map but they can be overcome by taking screen shots and pasting into Word documents or similar.

I use an online Blog - Travelpod - which has a facility to map your trip ....... there is a free app for tablets that syncs with the online program - its a great program and very easy to use. You can also upgrade to the full version with annual subscription if you wish. I would imagine other travel apps/blogs would also have something similar. Just google Travelpod and you can see what it is and if you want it. The map part of the program can only be used with the TravelPod Blog - it is not a standalone. Its probably not much value unless you want to have a blog. You can down load from the App Store for iPad - probably available also for android. It is designed by Trip Adviser

I'm a hard copy person when it comes to travel maps.

One of the first things that I did when I got my first van around 15yrs ago was to find a large (1.5 x 1 m) map of Oz & got it laminated.

I put it in a frame mounted on a bulkhead over the van's TV. (I have another non laminated one over my PC monitor in my study.

Just use colored markers to show major trips with a printed legend at the bottom showing date of trip, main destination & Km traveled.

I used to line in our Hema Aussie Touring Atlas but it became too cluttered & it is now difficult to read distances. It also has copious margin notes of information on where to stay (or avoid), some passed on by fellow travelers or from our own observations. Notes go right down to our preferred CP site numbers in some cases. (We don't bush camp by preference).

When we travel the East Coast we use the free Cartographer maps from Tourist Bureaus. They have a good level of detail & street maps of the larger towns.
