I have an old freeway slide on which is coming to the end of its days, and besides being very heavy(840kgs), has a wood frame and isn,t really suited to the semi off road stuff that I do, so I am building a new one. Steel welded fram, fits my 8x4 tray , lower , simpler. Here's a few pics of the frame. Will post more as it progresses.Bill
There's always a comedian in the crowd. The top and deckis 9mm structural ply, and the sides will be 7mm. All glued and teq screwed.Painted with solar resistant paint outside and Sikans varnish inside.Still figuring out where the cuboards and seats go. Will post as it progresses. Bill
Yeah, just taking my time , and doing a lot of thinking.Still have the freeway on the back of the truck, and will take it up to the Cape in early OCT, to see the rellies. Have a nephew who lives at Bamaga. Bill
I missed this thread, Bill. As to where the cupboards and seats go, I reckon inside, mate. Funnily enuff, I bumped into a bloke today at the Mall who has a Freeway like ours - more like yours with the base designed to fit a tub ute - sitting on a flat tray Falcon ute. He's a member here and I think his nick is freedom at last. I told him about you and your wealth of knowledge... as well as the Ironman helper springs. He wanted to know how much the Freeway weighs, and then mentioned the timber frame.
Meanwhile, congrats on building your own slide on. Sounds like a great idea... cheaper than buying one, and a chance to get creative.
