I have a normal TV antenna on the motor home and it does pick up HD TV now , can I use a set top box on my 12 vol TV when we go complete HD or do I have to buy a new antenna.
I bought a Topfield set top box for the bus and it had a 12v power supply so it could be run off 12v
I had to get my money back on it though as it did strange things in the bus, When I turned a light on topfield turned off, When I turned light off it turned on. When I walked past it, It turned off. I rang Topfield and they had no idea what could be causing it.
The lights and TV were running off different power sources, Lights on Batt TV was on mains. Bought a different brand from Dick Smith and no further issue.
It may have been a crook one, As I have the same brand in our house on a TV and no issues.

You could have placed some black tape over the STB's remote sensor. That would have told you whether the STB was being affected by infrared interference. Walking in front of the unit may have interrupted the external light source, effectively switching the lights off.
The strangest tale I heard was in regard to an old Philips TV with an ultrasonic remote. The owner complained that the TV would randomly switch channels. Numerous visits to the workshop turned up nothing. Then one day a technician working at the woman's house observed the problem for himself. It turned out that the women's cat had a bell that triggered the sensor whenever the cat walked past the set.

I actually witnessed our toaster when I was a kid playing music from a radio station, True story and I have no idea how that happened but I vaguely remember that there was an explanation for it.
In regard the set top box I did put tape over it and it made no difference, I found it really annoying at the time but can see the funny side of it now.
