Caboolture - Money spent in town!!!!

This is a clip from their facebook page, put on my facebook by Free Choice Camping - very interesting indeed!

FROM THE CABOOLTURE SHOW SOCIETY

Interesting comment on their Facebook page. Wonder if the CP Lobby can still call us freeloaders

Caboolture Show Society...
For the last month our staff have been running a little experiment to see how much our campers contribute to the local economy. We have had a bucket in the camp area into which campers were asked to place receipts for locally bought goods and services. We have just totalled up the ones for August.

Believe it or not these receipts came to $310,000! As not every purchase would have been added the total was probably even more. That is one hell of a boost to local traders.

RE: Caboolture Show Society

Just goes to show the point raised by free campers is correct. An average of $10,00.00 a day...Wow !! Some of the other Councils around Australia should take note...

I'm sure it happens in a lot of towns around this great playground, they just don't know about it OR just don't care.

Caboolture is in a rather unique position tho. If you ever check out the only caravan park in Caboolture you will know why so many people stay at the show ground. It is the only reasonably priced place to camp between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. I say well done Caboolture showground, but it still doesn't address groups of people staying at more remote free camp spots who pool and drive to a large centres to do their shopping, bypassing the small slightly more expensive shop in the local town. Funny thing is these people state they will not stop in a town that does not allow free camping but still travel to a town that does not support free camping because the shopping is cheaper. Sorry about the rant but I have seen this a few times recently.

Wondering what your point is there Neil. When at home do you not drive past the corner store to shop at the supermarket or bypass one butcher for another. Do you not drive past one servo because the fuel is .02c cheaper down the road. We live in a commercial world where customers make free choice of who and where they shop. When a camper does it, it suddenly become a problem?????

My point is when I am in my caravan I am in my home and if I choose to take advantage of the kindness of a community that supplies me with a place to camp I feel it only fair I repay that kindness. Maybe the commercial world is what is killing the rest of the world.

We stayed in the caravan park in Caboolture a few years ago, it was two stays, the first and the last.

The showground is always full - we go to the market there fairly regularly, and there is rarely a lot of room in the campers area.

I may add that Caboolture Caravan Repairs have a great reputation for repairs to all sorts/makes of caravans, the owner Barry posts on another forum as CABCAR.   They can give good feedback on any caravan etc you may be thinking of buying etc.
