Our Fiat Ducato scissor jack (supplied) broke on it's first use and we're now wondering what to replace it with. Any suggestions as we have a 23' Conquest and are planning long trips. Our initial search online has shown height variations, which might not be satisfactory.

I think I would get an hydraulic jack. Earlier in the year I went to jack the low side of the van with the van scissor jack and really was not impressed. I grabbed the hydraulic jack from the Pajero and felt more secure.
I agree with others. A hydraulic bottle jack. So much easier to use and takes less effort to operate. My MH is 8.5 Ton so Hydraulic is the only way to go.
I also have a few blocks of hardwood to use on softer ground to spread the weight though.
I recently became bogged down to the the front axle after some heavy rain. I couldn't get any sort of jack under it. I was dragged out by my neighbour and a friend with two 4x4's.
I might look at an airbag jack for a similar situation. Lots of digging to help.
I still think Hydraulic bottle jack is the way to go.
I bought a bottle jack for our motor home from ebay ($100),our motor home is a GVM of 5000kg so I bought a 10,000kg to be safe, used it once, worked well. The Fiat jacks seem a little flimsy for the purpose. You may also want to invest in a torque multiplier(wrench)so you can undo the wheel nuts with great ease($40)especially when they have been tightened with an extension bar or air gun at a tyre service centre.. cheers Peter

Yes Paul, I would definately get a two or three stage hydraulic jack. They are squat but strong. I have an Iveco Daily motorhome 5000kg & it lifts it with ease, a scissor jack is a very cheap & unstable way of lifting the vehicle. OK on a cement pad, but get one on a slope or soft ground, even with a block under it & you can have my place changing a wheel, it would be the best way to have your vehicle collapse or tip off the bent up jack.
