The plan was to get away early (5 am) this morning to get through Sydney before the early weekday traffic jams. However, as is often the case things don't always work out as planned.....
A nail in a tyre meant we didn't get away until 9am and then after a slow trip on the M7, M2, and Pennant Hills Road we were happy to be on the M1 and on our way. Then the forecasted rainy weather began, it poured until Taree.
I had planned our stops from many hours looking at Wikicamps and I can report that tonight we are in a lovely quiet town called Kendall staying at the Showground. Really tranquil, lots of green grass if a little soggy in spots from today's rain but a really good spot. $8.50 per person for a powered site.

I heard you were headed this way Molluscan so I had a word with the local rain dancer and asked him to take a break for a while. Some nice little towns up this way, including Kendall, so I'm glad you found a good spot and are enjoying your trip at last.
Day 2 and we are still at Kendall. Last night the rain stopped and the wind arrived! It was very blustery, even blew our door mat away. We hoped the van would stay upright at some stages through the night. still very windy for most of today so we were glad we stayed put. Calmer now so we plan to be off tomorrow, headed for Ballina.
It was lovely to hear from my 'friends', I have been reading your posts for some time now but it's nice that you are now writing to me.
Gary, thanks for your intervention with the rain gods, we are looking forward to be in your neck of the woods.
Even with the blustery winds we have enjoyed our stay at the Kendall Showground. Below are a few photos taken just now. There was a Pony Club on the Oval and the train line is just next door which kept Ron very excited as Billeeeeeee would say.
Sounds like you are enjoying your trip so far Margaret and that looks a nice spot to set up camp for a couple of days too. Make sure you pop into Byron Bay not far up from Ballina. Check out the Belongel Fields to set up camp for a couple of nights, on the main road just north of the town centre. One of my favourite haunts, don't expect any bells and whistles though cos there aren't any.
