Bet that will help traffic flow and diminish congestions. Also may increase rear end collisions.

It will be interesting tomsee howmit works out. Just another different rule to other states I spose. More than likely other states will follow soon anyway. All the more reason to have same rules in all states.

Rego Assie wide would be good too, yeh I know, different story all together.

The way we are heading it won't be long before we have to have someone with red flag to walk out in front while ever we are proceeding along the road.
I can see some spectacular crashes occurring on an expressway with this new rule in place as almost every trip I make on the expressway I come across the highway patrol with someone pulled over for speeding, can really see no reason to have to slow down to 25 just to pass when some one is being booked by the side of the road.
Cheers

This is the kind of thinking that slows Australia from progressing and assures we remain a nanny nation. Or is it another instance when some over paid bureaucrat needs to justify his/her employment.

Well what a load of whinging.....the Emergency Services in SA have been campaigning for this for years.......have you ever tried standing by the side of a road trying to control traffic at the scene of an accident, or pull someone out of a vehicle or put out a car fire with cars whizzing past...no i thought not......yes i have and i do it for nothing but the knowledge that i am helping my fellow man.....and when cars continue to whizz past it is very scary.....you are all a disgrace...it was not the beaurocrats that campaigned for this but the emergency serive personnel at the coal face!

If fools wont slow to forty what makes you think they will go to twenty five. whenever i am in a drive slow situation half obey the limits and drive cautiously and half have a " let me in and let me through"  attitude. lowering the limit alone may help but some just dont care

The effort has to be made to protect those that protect you........the suggestion that it is a revenue raiser is appalling at best......so what you are suggesting is no effort should be made to protect the emergency services?

I think it was more along the lines of having to slow down for a copper booking someone.

That's right Larry , I don't think anyone is saying there is no need to slow down , stop if necessary for accident or some other hazard " tree on road " what every , its just common sense .

But a Copper with a car pulled up where there is more than enough room to pass safely is a bit much , depends on the road of coarse narrow road , open doors , ppl standing on the road ect again common sense . Drivers that have no sense , probably no going to matter what the law says , just book em for dangerous driving .

I think you will find the coppers will be told that if both their vehicle and the speeders vehicle are off the roadway then their beacons must be turned off

as they are not necessary.

As an aside (and only slightly OT) some time ago I read of a court case in USA where a tow truck operator was sued by the driver of a vehicle that crashed into

the truck that was attending a breakdown on a highway at night.  Both vehicles were in the breakdown lane but the tower had his beacons on (presuming it was safer to do this).

The judge ruled that as there was no danger to traffic from the stationary vehicles his beacon induced the "moth to a candle" effect and caused the crash to the tower had to pay damages.

Only in America?  Maybe not.

Watch This Space ...

Victoria is looking at same regulations ... applicable to all Emergency vehicles, not just Police.

i don't have a problem slowing down to 25, we have to go 25 through school crossing. what get me is all the different speed limits. 40, 50, 60 ,70,80, 90, 100 & 110.
