No, it's actually a heater to keep warm John. I have heard of a gas or diesel heater but not the one I asked about. Apparently and according to Avan it works off the hot water storage tank.

The 1 issue with the combo unit doug is.. You might want hot water but you don't need the Heat...

John, also that Hot water system is a mount outside, definitely not allowed to be mounted inside ANY structure.... Due to the Exhaust..

mate We are staying away from the gas heaters and and are putting in a diesel on with a 50liter diesel tank under the van just for the heater,

We save the gas for cooking and hot water only. Wendy and I plane for some very extended bush camping so if there is any sort of fire ban

we need all the gas we can that is why I got Roadstar to replace the 3 way fridge with the 12,24,240 volt on as we have enough solar to live on.

Cheers

Interesting about your fridge change Ron. Does that mean a 3 way fridge can't be used on gas during a "Total Fire Bad". If so I was unaware of that.

Mate my choice was made to save gas as a gas cooking devise can be used during a fire ban, we have plenty of solar and a genny,

to run the fridge so all our gas is only for hot water and cooking.

I will be having as minimum 200w of Solar Panel on the roof charging as minimum 200ah batteries, with a 120w portable panel as well for when stationary for any length of time so I can follow the sun around.

Hi Doug,

We are having a new caravan built which will have a total of 360w solar panels, total 200 ah batteries, 12 volt fridge and a Truma combined Gas/Electric hot water and heater, we went this way because of issues with the 3 way fridges in the warmer areas of OZ, I like my beer cold. :) The gas that would have been used for the fridge if we had a 3 fridge is now used for the heater/hot water and this balances the gas usage out, there is a requirement to have an external vent.

Thanks NW, I am still deciding which way to go with heating when not on 240v. Some say Diesel is noisy and smelly and then some say Gas can run out and is quiet with no smell. All a personal choice thing I think. I will decide what way to go soon I reckon.

The system I asked about is apparently newish to the market and is being tested by a CV builder with success. At this stage I would prefer to keep my hot water separate from the heating of the Den.
