A bull bar. Yea well named, they are a lot of bull. Good for hanging the towels on to dry. Not much use else on a Hiace. Just useless dead weight They are so poorly mounted they just bend back onto the front if you actually touch anything. I have taken a few off on Hiaces we have had, because they also scrape as the mounts are so low underneath. So IMHO don't waste your money.
As far as the bike goes, try the easy way first and if you find a better way to do it, or its inconvenient then change it. However a bike rack will block the rear door lifting.

Hi , yes as john says they are a catch 2 situation , they protect against lighter wildlife but punch holes in the front when you hit something decent (done it ) however you can strengthen the bar but then it bends the rails pretty severely when hit , as I said catch 2 ?
Hi: I had bull bars on a mitsubishi van and a four wheel drive and hit big roos.
The vehicles where right offs but who cares the bull bar did what they were design for keep the animal from coming inside car.
Who cares what it does to the vehicle. I have seen the after mess of a kangaroo badly injured inside a vehicle .
A 10 year old girl spent 3 months in hospital after been badly ripped and is still badly scarred,and the father lost an
eye and a badly mangled left arm which to this day 5 years later still has problems. So when some one says they are a waste
of money and of no use just think what a badly injured animal inside a small area with 2 people inside can do..

I, had a Roo Bar on my Hi Ace camper a few years ago now.
Hit an Airborne Kangaroo on the Exmouth Cape Range road at 0630 one summer morning I was doing 65 Kph. I did not even get my foot to the brake pedal. The Kangaroo would possibly have come through the windscreen had the top rail of the roobar not been there. As it was the "Aluminium" Roo Bar was bent but did the job. The the head actually struck the screen. Unfortunately for the kangaroo there was no chance.
Also a week later, coming out of Cape Range and keeping to the Speed Limit (60 Kph I think) another one sprang out of the undergrowth at the side of the road and was hit quite hard as I slammed the bakes on. Again no body damage to the Hi Ace, but another bent bit on the Roo Bar.
I had just fitted Roo Shoo devices to the van as well Four of them. What a waste of money. But I was happy the Roo Bar did it's job.
