CAN ANY ONE IN THE GAS INDUSTRY;

Answer this, as it just came up in general conversations along the track.

Swap & go gas bottles, apparantly do not meet caravan regulations as in being thinner in the construction  metal being used for these bottles.

It was also stated that any accidents involving gas bottles on vans/m/homes was being investigated by the insurance companys.

Over to you, I will be off line for a few days, again.Heading out to the west Macdonald rangers for a couple of days,back through Alice & then south.

Cheers;

JC.

Is there anything concrete to substantiate these claims or is it just more campfire gossip?

There are a number of recent discussions on various online forums relating to the type of gas bottle required for use on caravans.  However, the comments being shared in these forums are perpetuating urban myths that have no basis in fact.

Specifically, claims that you can only use gas bottles with certain Coating Classification Codes on a caravan and that the use of the wrong gas bottle could void your insurance.  There is no truth to either of these contentions.

I have found within the Grey Nomad community that they do tend to gossip and pass on misinformation from stop to stop at times...

one of the "wank" sayings they've (we've) had over the years is...

have you been to Kakadu? well Kakadon't...

comments like this are very damaging and can hurt businesses especially when claims are unfounded...

Kakadu is a magnificent place... you just need to do your homework as to whats there on offer and it that's the type of thing you'd like to see...

.................

one thing with swap and go is that you have to keep on eye on the date on the bottles you get... if they are nearly out of date the next time you go to swap it they want accept it or charge you around $80 to change it...

my bottles are new so I just refill them at $20 each..

they can stick their swap and ripoff... furious

originally the swap and go was to make sure you have bottles that were always in date and that's why you paid extra... now there's another charge on top on that if you are out of date...

 The rules and charges must vary from place to place ..

Only yesterday I took an old out of date cylinder to Bunnings and swapped it for a full one...No questions asked and only $23..

Thanks for the link Rocky. I found the bit about how many gas bottles you can carry in an enclosed vehicle interesting indeed. I will have to now find and check the info for all States and Territories to make sure all is in order no matter where I travel.

 I'd read that link before, John, ... my comment was more directed at the original post not yours. I get a little frustrated with those that promote these issues as having some sort of validity when simple checks can be done to check their validity.

Regards, Dave
