Why not just screw them to the side of your own van then no harm done , except that they may fly off and hit someone <G>

we went to Greens and I knew about the thong tree, so when I got very red faced and went info a ladies underwear dept and asked the lady for a thong and she took me to the rack and I choose a very nice pink one and when I got to greens I did not want an even redder face so I did not produce my thong to put on the tree. biggrinbiggrin

A lot depends on where the tree is.

If the tree is the property of a roadhouse or private caravan park or other private property then the owner has a say in whether or not they want shoes nailed to their tree.

This tree in question is in a reserve which is for the use and pleasure of all and the trees are protected by law from such actions. I for one do not want to go to a reserve and see shoes nailed to a tree.

<< If you feel so strongly about the tree, you could always go to Greens Lake in the dead of night and remove all the nails and offending thongs. My bet is they would all be back there again pretty soon. >>

Although I am a lone voice on this forum about this tree I know that I have the support of some members.

I have saved the latest photo of the tree ( because it will come down soon ) and whenever I  look at the photo of the tree disfigured by writing and shoes nailed to it I will get the courage and strength to continue my fight to get the shoes and nails and other graffiti removed. I do not need to come in after dark myself and do this as I am not afraid to come in daylight .

At the moment I have no intention of going there but I will certainly be starting a campaign over the Xmas holiday period via the internet to get the shoes removed. If the members who feel they right on their side want to have a fight with someone then they will have plenty of opportunity when the law enforcement authorities turn up over Xmas.

The people who put the nails and shoes on the tree or who encouraged others to do so, have an opportunity to get them off before Xmas. That is plenty of warning so the ball is in your court.

I think some people have been led into taking this illegal action without thinking of the consequences so I am not doing anything until Xmas and then the gloves are off

The Local council here nailed a reflector to a street tree that somehow migrated a foot or so further out into the street compared to the rest as a warning. Are you going to get your knickers in a Knot over that too? No wonder this great country of ours is going up the spout with all the dogooders proliferating about the place.

Starve em of oxygen I reckon.

Thank you for your reply.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion although a death threat like that is a bit over the top I think. Anyway fore- warned is fore- armed.

Phew !!

All I am trying to do is save tree in a protected reserve.

Well at least he/she has identified himself so we don't mistakenly invite him/her to happy hour.

Imagine his/her horror to see some poor dead branch flicker and burst into flames to warm the ****les of our heart as we consume that terrible liquor derived from the misfortune of some poor grape or grain that was pulled from its home and its live blood crushed from its very body so we can glean enjoyment as it trickles down our throat.

We would have to make sure that no ant is crushed as we walk back to our respective RV's and please don't disturb the mating non existing rainbow tree frog.

But then thinking about it most of the greenies I knew drove old VW's that belched smoke everywhere and dropped oil as they went off to hug another tree.

Was often told that the greenies caused more damage to the environment whilst they tried to save some poor tree or an unknown frog etc.

Most of us love our great country and spend many hours picking up rubbish and keeping the areas we visit clean of rubbish etc but most of us have grown up and experienced live and realise there are things we can do and some we cant. If you worry about the things you cant control you soon have no friends, suffer mental problems and usually stay at home encased in four walls or in a mental ward.

I did not put a thong on the tree while at Greens (because I dont have a pair), but I suppose I could go to Vinnies and get some to show solidarity.

Regards
Brian

Not too long ago I saw a documentary on the ABC where some well meaning caravan park owner (?) had invited National Parks to introduce koalas into the local habitat. The area was populated with trees that the koalas thrived upon. Initially a small number (30 or 60 pairs ?) were introduced, but after a few years their numbers swelled to 9000 (?). Needless to say, they destroyed most of the trees and introduced their own problems.

So what do you do when one protected species predates on another protected species? Should we be "managing" our environment, or should we let nature run its own course? Although I wouldn't nail anything to a tree (except maybe a politician), I think there are much more serious ecological issues than the one in this thread.

BTW, when in Paris, watch out for these:

portland.indymedia.org/media/images/2005/03/313978.jpg

Apparently their poo problem was so bad, that one Parisian took to the streets and "flagged" every dog dropping that he found.

I think that is this country where we are supposed to have freedom of speech anyone who dares to make a post that does not meet with the approval of the "in crowd" is immediately jumped on from a great height.

I fully expect this post to receive the same treatment which is the reason I very rarely post.

EVERBODY is entitled to their opinion, that includes you so please do not stop posting just because you have that thought in your mind, give everybody a say.

In this world you will NEVER get everybody to agree. IMHO

In our travels we have also seen Teddy Bear tree, Donald Duck trees and a knickers tree.

They're out there whether we like it or not. There are worse things to worry about I reckon.

Sounds like politicians - find fault but offer no practical solution. Maybe to keep everyone happy in future the thongs could be hung on the branches with a bit of loose rope (so future growth will not be impeded!)
