Hi, I am new to the Grey Nomads and this is my first post. We recently returned from a trip from Cape York and since we drove through a bit of water I thought I would change my diff oil. I own a 2008 GU Patrol and had it for just over two years. The specifications say that the rear diff capacity is 2.1-2.3 litres of oil and the front is around 5.4. I have changed the oil today and the rear diff has taken 4 litres of oil and it is about 5 mm from the top of the inspection plug. There was about 3.5 litres of oil that came out. This was not full as no oil came out when I took of the inspection plug. This vehicle was an ex Telstra vehicle with the alloy canopy on the rear. Could Telstra have changed the diff at some point, or should I just put in the recommended amount.
Your thought and ideas would be greater appreciated. I will post photos up on the forum this weekend.
Rear diff capacity on the patrol rear diff is more than your stated capacity. Not sure without manual but 3.5 plus litres sounds about right for memory. Re check your specs as 5.4 litres for front diff is way too much, their capacity is smaller than the rear. As advised fill to top of plug hole. Alan
