"For example, at ALDI stores, payment by EFTPOS by selecting the 'savings' or 'cheque' option does not attract a surcharge."
With the bank I am with they charge for EFTPOS payments after several transactions so I suppose you could get slugged one way or the other if you use EFTPOS at lot.
We don't have Aldi here on the West Coast as far as I know but are supposed to be opening here in WA soon, see;
Aldi have been charging this for years if you use your credit card but none if you use your eftpos card so always use my eftpos card
Gday...
Ya right Pondy. However, if you use PayWave as distinct from inserting or swiping your EFTPOS DEBIT card, then you WILL attract the 0.5% surcharge.
Quote from the article Vic posted -
"Aldi levies a 0.5 per cent surcharge on all credit card payments, including tap-and-go transactions using a debit card."
It is the levying of the surcharge on PayWave debit cards that got Aldi's hand smacked. They are still charging it .. but must train staff better and put up signage advising customers they are charging it on PayWave debit cards.
cheers - John

Looks like more and more stores are starting to charge to use cards these days. Never been an Aldi fan anyway really. I know a lot are though.
If you are that way inclined Dougwe, compare a trolley of shopping between Aldi, Coles and Woolworths. You will find the card fee pales into insignificance compared to the savings.
1) 500 gm Olive Oil type spread (margarine) $2.00 @ Aldi, over $4.00 at Coles and Woolworths
2) 95 gm sandwich tuna $0.79 @ Aldi, usually over $1.00 at Coles and Woolworths
2) 1 kg Yogurt $3.79 @ Aldi, usuallu over $4.50 at Coles and Woolworths.
These are just a few examples. Quality and source is comparable. When on limited income, Aldi makes a big difference.
I love Aldi as well - though sometimes frustrating when they don't have something you have previously bought, in stock, or gone completely!
Their prices are terrific - their prices are the same for the "basics", margarine, butter, bread, etc., all the time, not just "on special" as with other supermarkets.
Meat is not bad either, well priced, had a ham at Christmas, was absolutely beautiful, and very reasonably priced!
