Jerry cans are inherently sealed, so unless the pickup arrangement has a (blocked?) vent built into it, you will need to either unlatch the filler, or add a vent of some kind to prevent this happening again.

You may be able to restore your jerry can by pressurising it with compressed air... slowly AND carefully!

G/day mate, Jerry cans are designed to be air tight, they are not designed to be used as a reservoir from which you draw fuel,

the only way it can work is to install some sort of vent.

I have purchased the 53 ltr under floor tank to mount under our new van 

there are slime line ones you could mount in the front boot

 Just came across this on net as I was looking at Ebersparcher D4 heater maintenance info.

He has used a  Jerry Can detachable pourer, and modified it.

I still think a little none spill  Fuel Breather valve would look neater.    They have tiny breathers for Motorbike and Trail Bike tanks that let air in but prevent fuel leakage if the bike is laid down.
