Hi All,

Know this has been flogged to death in different forms, however could somebody out there answer a simple ( I hope ), hypothetical question?

1. Van has a towball weight on the compliance plate of 150kg.

2. Actual towball weight when loaded and ready to go 200kg

3. Tow vehicle towball capacity 250kg

Is it legal to tow in this situation??

1) That would be the towball weight when the van is empty.
2) Obvious
3) Within your towing capacity.
Wonder like you what the legality is bearing in mind that an acceptable towball weight is 10 - 15% of the weight of the van.

Yes.

The towball weight on the compliance plate is generally at Tare weight of the van... unloaded.

As long as the ball weight is around 8 - 12% of the actual van weight, all's good.

Thanks all for your replies.

Cruisin Cruze, Avatar photo is crossing the creek between Karumba & Normanton Mar/Apr 2010. Before I get yelled at, there is a council ute in front leading a group of us through. The two guys fishing had us intrigued given the number of crocs in that area.
