Hi all. We have a Jayco motorhome with a surging water pump. Even with the tap opened fully it surges, the lights flicker as if it switching on and off. We have tried adjusting it but no luck. If I turn 2 taps on full it stops. Any ideas.
Does this happen with every tap (on it's own) or just one in particular? It sounds like the pump is getting up to pressure, then cutting out and straight back in again as the pressure drops. This can happen if you have a restriction (or the pipes are too small or too long, creating a pressure drop). The fact that it doesn't do it when you open two taps, supports this theory.
Check the tap outlet for a partially blocked strainer or gauze (if fitted).
Do you have a water filter installed? Some vans have them fitted to just the kitchen tap. If so, perhaps it needs changing.
Having said all this, it can also be quite normal, especially if your pump is of a reasonably high capacity. Our van tends to do it when we run the shower as it has a water saving shower head.
If everything checks out OK, I wouldn't get too concerned about it.

The pump has an inbuilt pressure & it is normal for it turn on & off . the frequency at which it does this dependson how much you have the tap turned on
As long as the flow is reasonable constant & no air is coming from the tap I suspect all is normal
However this pumps need some sort of air reservior to smooth out the pressure. That can be in th form of a small air tank or it may use the hot water system free space above the pressure relief valve
You could try with the PUMP SWITCHED OFF opening the pressure relief valve of the HWS until no more water drains out.
Hey Guys. Thanks so much for the responses. Firstly to Larry. I have checked but no leaks. Gerry. It does itwith anytap. The pipes are as installed by Jayco. We were having problem with only one tank draining then running out of water with the second tank full. Started sucking air. Fixed it by repositioning the t joiner to an equidistance between both pipes. But it was surging prior to this. Will have a look forstrainers etc. Not sure what I have here. And Peter, like the idea of an air pressure reservoir. Should it be before or after the pump? Have emptied the hot water system and refilled.
