the thetford

hi all,

have a thetford cassette in my new/2ndhand campervan

since I got it the water indicator on the side has never filled and I can't get it to flush - resorted to a 2 litre bottle finally.

the push button did make a noise, now it doesn't do that.

phoned the rv company I got it from who said advised me to go back. but if it's only a little fix it'd save me a trip.

the van is a 2010 model.

any help gratefully received

cheers

This may be silly but, have you filled the water reservoir?

Two things to look at.

1. Have you filled the main water tank ?

2. If your water pump is manually operated, you need to turn it on.

It sounds like you have an empty water tank (Main)

Do not know the Model of your thethford, but I helped a friend fix his when the pump did not Flush.

If you have filled the casettes holding tank and the water indicator is at least 3/4 filled.

Turn 12v power off.

I would check the fuse after removing the casette, replace if necessary. If the fuse is OK then

I would then remove the Toilet roll holder, ie the plastic container in the unit I worked on pulls out.

You can then see the pump, its held in by a screw, remove the screw, and remove the pump.

I found that the pump impeller was frozen, I turned the impeller around a number of times with a scewer ( initially it was quite hard).

Turned the Power on, Pushed the switch to try the pump and it worked.

Put the pump back in the reverse order.

I would test the pump on say a monthly basis ( just a burst of power) to ensure it does not freeze up again

and again.
appreciate the advice. but looks like i'll have to get an axe to it. or return to rv company.
I can grasp the pump but can't move it out through the hole where the flush button is. there isn't a toilet roll holder.
the whole unit is sealed in right around the wall and the only way in is to chip the sealant away. and it's well set.
the shower is incorporated in the 64cmx82cm unit as well.
might be easier to use the shower to flush:):)
cheers

hi, when you grab the water pump, is it sitting in water,, it is very awkward and a tight fit to get it out of its little hidey hole but it does come out. I did ours a couple of weeks ago and still gave the grazes on my arm.

My van is 2008 Jayco
The flush tank has to be filled slowly as it has a S bend in the tank which makes it hard to fill
Check the fuse that is fitted near the fill tank
If the van has not been used in a while the pump may seized and needs to be replaced
These are issues i have experienced

Hi, mine is a c250cwe , and it wasn't working when we bought it recently , I did a google search on likely problems and found the answer( one of about 3 issues they have)
The main fuse is located behind the cassette , it was completely covered in corrosion in the fitting and the actual fuse legs, so I used contact cleaner and still no good...... Fuse was not blown , but the contacts were still bad, so l got a bit of spare wire , bent it in a u and away it went when I pushed the button
So l'll get a new fuse holder and fuse and bypass the stock one ( what a stupid damp place to put it!
I had pulled the whole unit out ( only held by 4 screws at the base of the cassette housing and the 4 outside screws of the chem inlet, l checked the circut board under the flus button and the loom connector in the cavity of the rh side of the cassette housing next to the outer door, all that was ok.....phew!
