Advice on route to take

We are planning to travel from Finley to Longreach. We have a small motorhome. Could anyone advise on the best route to take and freedom camping spots on the way please.

If you are wanting a fairly direct route, Griffith, Hillston, Cobar, Bourke, Cunnamulla, Charleville, Baracaldine, Longreach.

I would also recommend Julia Creek if you can detour that way.  A very forward thinking council.  96 hour self contained free camp down on Julia Creek, free push bikes to cycle into town.  Great little info centre and Dunnart display.  All you need.  If you stay at the free camp for 4 days you can then go into the caravan park for a night for $15.  What more can you ask?

Do you want the most direct route, the fastest route or the most scenic route? Is time a premium? We use Google Maps to start the planning for a trip then use the Camps Book and internet searches to identify places we want to stop and then Wikicamps to identify specific camp sites to use. Then as we travel we talk with others and get recommendations about places to see and stop, where's good, bad or indifferent; road conditions etc and adjust our plans accordingly. So far we haven't kept to our original travel plan once but we've had a great time seeing things we hadn't identified.

 Sound advice.

Thank you all for your advice. We want the scenic route and we don't have time restraint. It is our first "big trip" We have had a few practice trips and think we are now ready to go. Very excited.

We will be on our way down and look forward to bumping into you somewhere above Bourke. Which ever way you go don't forget to enjoy the journey.

Hi, we are the Warrego Riverside Caravan Park, if any one is passing through, and will be here for the next couple of weeks. We would love to meet any that are passing through.
