so work this one out

Madda, So is this correct??

As I went yesterday to the Dept of Transport with both the High Tensile bolt and the chain. And they said it was fine. More of an overkill if anything.

YET... On a Facebook page yesterday afternoon< I was told that all chains have to be WELDED, Not Bolted???

So go figure... So over it already. Since I seen the post about the Law change, it has cost me over $80 in 2 x 13mm 2 Tonne Shackles and Chain for a 750Kg Trailer  :-[

and this

Rated shackles are a recommendation only
but if you check out the australian standards they have to be rated. GO FIQURE

as a trailer builder i have been advised by havras that trailers should have rated shackles and rated chains
also chains should not be welded to the draw bar

This is only recommendations at this point.
as was the cargo net for utes and trailers and we all know how that turned out

This will become legislation and mainly due to the poor quality of imported trailers

For an Australian Standard (AS) to be mandatory,, the relevant Federal or State Legislation MUST SAY SO.  Many AS are advisory or recommendations ONLY as far as legislation and enforcement goes.

Please read VSB1 in my previous post, especially if you are building trailers, this should be your bible.
