We are about to head off to do the big lap. Can anyone provide us with information about what sort of van to go with? Tow will be a petrol Prado (most likely) but the is indecision about the van - do we go for a semi off road with all mod cons or an upmarket off road camper type. We are currently wavering betweena 20 ft JB Dreamliner with off road suspension and something along the lines of a Jayco Swift off roader. Help!!!!
I would suggest that you sit down and have a talk of what you wish to do...
- I started with a camper trailer, and then did the zig-zag of America in a Small 18ft RV with basic fit-out..
I then took all that information and made my decision of what I want..
So have a look at what you want.. don't be surprised that it will change once you get on the road..

Sallygirl, just be aware that towing with a petrol powered tug will increase your fuel consumption by almost two fold. This is why most of us that tow a biggish van have a diesel.
Good luck in your research. You find everyone has a different opinion. Ours is based on facts.

Sallygirl, what we did was to hire a unit that we thought was what we liked the most & did several small trips of about one or two weeks to see if it was really what suited us. If not, we hired another type until we finally got what we both enjoyed the most & suited the type of travelling that we wanted to do. That way, you only buy what suits your type of travelling. Hope all goes well Sallygirl & happy grey nomadding.
