TWO TIMMERS;

Coomalie Creek rest area, north of Adelaide river, Stuart Hwy. A nice little roadside area on the Coomalie creek, just enough water for a cool off.

Yep, you guessed it a no camping sighn. Why? there's caravan park next door.

Dropped in for a late lunch stop, along with a couple of other fellow travellers. During our stop the council boys came through to empty the garbage bins, all 8 of them.

The other travellers asked how often the emptied them? twice a week & always full, a little excessive garbage for a small area I thought.

Within 45mins of them being emptied a 6 wheel farm type vehicle arrives & starts unloading large plastic bags of garbage into the bins.

The other couple there reconised the vehicle as being from the caravan park as they had stoped there on their way nth a few weeks earlier.

These park people didn't like a camera being focused on them & left like a dog shot in the butt.

A phone call to council revieled that the no camping sighn was a result of the caravan park wingers, they are now under investergations.

JC.

Gday...

Interesting how so-called "camps" in popular areas seem to constantly, and consistently, draw travellers like flies to s*1t and flak from the local community.

It doesn't matter who is right or wrong - or who has the ulterior motive - friction will continue to grow as the numbers of travellers grow each year ... all looking to minimise their expenditure.

This news article is about 4 years old but is quite probably still pertinent. Looks like the van park is not more 'attractive'.......

Well caught out JC - and reporting to the council was the right thing to do!!! My opinion, for what it's worth.

This is interesting, as we have just come from the Coomalie RV Camping Grounds.  They provide cheap/budget sites, powered $20.00, unpowered $10.00.  Clean toilets, showers, laundry.  Nice grassed area.  Not really a caravan park as such, (however it did used to be a caravan park up until a few years ago, when it closed down.)

The rest area at Coomalie Creek has not been an "overnight free camp" in CAW 7 or 6 - only classed as a day use area, despite the fact that vans still park there. There was a campervan there this morning at 7.30. And the bins were definitely not overflowing.

As for the "rubbish" issue, the new owner told us a happy hour two nights ago, that that one of the issues he was faced with was the supply of the rubbish bins, which are dotted around his camping grounds.  He has ample, and in the two days we were there, did not see any "evidence" of what justcruising has mentioned.

This guy has only got the park up and running again over the past 6 months, and is definitely on the GN side.  Try to support him, he is there for our benefit.
