I have been speaking to a lovely couple here in Grafton CP, relatively new to the GN lifestyle. MH, brand new all set up with solar, etc. and the subject of free camping came up. I was spriuiking its virtues when they asked of course was I frightened doing it (freecamping that is) as they had heard that the people who did that were mostly undesirables, and they would be too frightened, and not only that they were under the assumption that when free camping you were not allowed to put out the awning, no chairs outside not allowed to basically do anything.
After the shock of what they were telling me wore of and I established that they were deadly serious, I then explained to them the wonderful experiences I had had, and the great people I had met. I wonder who they had been speaking to and what on earth had them believing all that they had been told.
I hope as they continue on their GN lifestyle they finally come up with the courage to try a little free camping for themselves. Oh yes, I did tell them about the website but they said they were not into social media. So who knows??

I agree Poppysoreeye - Paul - definitely need to broaden their horizons - and the forum is a great way to learn - as you will have found I am sure!
Sharon - we met a couple the other day at a free camp - they have been caravanning for about 10 years, and this is the first trip they have done any free camping - it is the rising cost of caravan parks and the fact that you had to virtually be in a town to stay in one, that prompted them to give it a try.
At the moment they don't have solar, but the man said if he can get a good deal in the next biggest town, he will get some on the roof. They reckon they have had more and better happy hours in the few times free camping, than they have had in caravan parks. Free camp ones are usually impromptu, and people just wander up and start chatting, often with a glass or can in hand, whereas in parks they are formulated usually, and often very clicky.
