Well we bought a 22 foot Jayco caravan with an island bed at the front, shower and toilet at the rear which I think will be great for our travels We have a Holden Colorado 4x4 so plenty of power to tow it. I now need to know about distribution bars/haymen reese/sway bars etc that we don't have but need apparently so if anyone can offer advice about such things I would be very grateful. many thanks
This subject has been discussed at great length. If you bought the van through a dealer, he/she has a duty of care to advise you and help you. If you bought the van privately, the previous owner should help you.
If all else fails, try a caravan parts/accessory or give Hayman Reese a call.
Ann ,Larry is on the ball if you don,t wish to Aus Kiwis way.Find a jayco dealer and they always have accessories ring first and then take the van with you, they will do a ball weight and make the best of which way you should go .Or find a good van shop .Cheers John

We have a Hayman Reece weight distribution hitch. On one of our trips we had a blowout on the van - the tyre was an absolute mess, went all over the road, dented quite a bit underneath the van but the car (we had Ford sedan at the time) stayed straight and true on the road. Brian was driving at the time and said he had no trouble at all with steering the vehicle, not so much as a a sway or wag out of the van, he claims it was thanks to the hitch. We have no swaying with the van. When we changed to a Prado we immediately put on the Hayman Reece towbar and use the weight distribution hitch wouldnt be without it. I am not mechanically minded that is hubbys department so cant help you as to why it works.
A WDH is a "must". Go to an accessory shop, or to a Caravan Show (it will be a bit cheaper). Most Caravan Repair workshops will be able to help and do give good advice.

Good Luck
I couldn't agree more.
I wouldn't even consider taking my 21'6" Jayco on the road without a Hayman Reece Weight Distribution Hitch.
Our dealer fitted the hitch (& the break controller) as part of the purchase deal. (that was way back in 1999).
In about 10 days time I'll have a HR550 WDH (Off my RG Colorado) along with heaps and heaps of caravanning gear (New and used) accumulated over many years. All will be listed and priced. Pick up Mornington Peninsula Only. Ozjohn.
