Diesel exhaust blown on to A frame

Hi every one;

                  Ok every one, how does one shift the diesel exhaust that gets blown on to the draw bar of my caravan, i have tryed just about all of the heavy duty car and truck wash soaps ( even CT20 ) that are on the market. And while these keep the tug and caravan clean, when it comes to the draw bar, well it just doesn't cut the mustard. Any one have a idear of what else i could use!!!!

Have the exhaust tip angled downward then re paint it. If you're blowing smoke then a service would be in order to rectify it.

Hi Valiant

I would recommend that you get a 2 dollar degreaser spray can from Supercheap Auto

spray it on , than run a brush or sponge over it and hose it direct off with water

that should do the trick for you  ( them can's are not that caustic, so safer for paint )

Good luck

John

Get tailpipe to exit out the side and down. Maybe fitting an exhaust tip that angles it away ?
Check air cleaner if it's smoking ??

If you are blowing so much smoke so as to stain your drawbar, a service is your priority.

Hi;

   Thanks for the replys one and all.

As for the service on my tug, i have a 95 pajero and have had it for several years now, as for the Kls, well just over 208,000. Serviced every 12 Months or 5000 Kms. All of the usuall things, oil / fuel / air  filters,  and any thing else that has come up ( glow plugs for one ) and needs replacing. Only blows black smoke when the caravan is on the back and the motor is working a lot more than usual. This is all normal, I think ??I have had the injector pump checked and recalibrated and the injectors replaced, so no problems there and that was just before we went up to Darwin last year. While this helped with the fuel consumption, I still have the soot problem

Yes your are right  Legendts, maybe haveing the exhaust pipe angled down and /or even turned 90 degrees would help and this would problerly work ok and would be the cheapest way around.

And Cruseing cruse, I have used the $2.00 degreaser, great for the engine bay, but useless on the drawbar.

I am on my 2nd 4x4 and on both I have had the exhaust turned out the side and down at a 45 degree angle.

Works a treat, and did not cost much.

Mines just turned down and straight out with no issues. Just remember more bends equal more restrictions.

Hi all;

       Sorry for not making myself clear with the Pajero, re the motor. Mine is a 95 model with the 2.8 Ltr Intercooled turbo diesel  motor and coupled to a 5 speed manual gearbox. It has no cat fitted to the exhaust. While the motor is not common rail ( and a engine managment system to control the injectors ) all it has is a mechinal fuel pump that also feeds the fuel under high pressure and the pump does the 'timeing'. Four fuel lines , one to each injector. Simple and easy and less electronics to go wrong. In other words ' Old School '.

Thanks every one for the replys .......looks like i'm off to have the end of the exhast turned a way from pointing straight out the back, will see the the exhaust mob say !!!!

Changing tail pipe would be so easy for me ..I cut it back ! Fit 90* bend fitted over original with support strap ..
Why I suggest to check air cleaner ? If there's any intake restriction the motor will run rich..
Another thing when pulling some weight and engine is loaded .. Try backing off throttle a little ..
The injector pump is the only power , rpm control through throttle pedal via the amount injected...
In the older systems ...
