Watching TV

Just been reading in the Tech section people discussing which is the best satellite TV system or decoder box etc., made me wonder, is having TV that important to most people?

We bought the whole satellite system a couple of years ago, most of the time the dish sat either on the bed or on a seat - we found we just weren't that interested in what was on the television at all.  So we sold it all, except the television set.

Now we have a media player with 2950 movies on it - had it for quite a while, possibly watched 100 of them, maybe - most times the tele lives in the cupboard - we find so much more to do - talk, muck around on the computers, play cards - or on a really nice night sit outside and watch the sky, talk to friends and fellow campers.

Watching the sky can be amazing - on this trip we have seen numerous falling stars , satellites and even something we think may have been a large comet, entering earth's atmosphere and burning up - that was an amazing thing to see - spectacular, and a once in a lifetime event I would think!

What do others do?

Hi Jules. I do enjoy watching 'morning TV' when I first get up. Catch up with what is happening in the world. Don't watch it much through the day later but at night I have a couple of fav. shows & also any good docos especially ones on nature. So TV is a must for us.

Jules, I really get your point. If I am in an area where there is no reception it does not bother me at all. I am not too proud to admit there are certain shows I like to watch, and being on my own I usually have it on in the background as noise rather than watching a lot of the time. If the tele is not on I will have music on anyways. If I had a partner I would imagine as you do, we would be playing cards or yakking, and when Colin was alive we did a lot of that also.
Guess it is different courses for different horses, and yes to sit out and watch the stars is amazing, I did that at Cranky Rocks, it was beautiful but when going back indoors, well Miss Daisy as much as I love her, she isn't much of a conversationalist. My book supply is always up to date and I enjoy writing, but then other times it is nice just to veg out.

I am missing my tele at present, more so because I know I should be getting full reception here. Oh well that is life and now back to the washing and domestic duties.

Gday...

I have always been like me mum - wake to radio and it stays on all day.

TV - I only use the TV when on 240v. I have a 12v TV but if not on 240v - which is the majority of the time coz I'm camping - it stays in its box and the radio keeps me company.

I do like the ABC news/7.30 Report/Q&A and most documentaries - OH ... and Collingwood if I can

Other than that, TV sure is a waste of time and I certainly do not miss it when camping.

Cheers - John

Because I have to send 80% of my waking hours sitting in a comfy lounge chair TV is quite important to me. With my laptop on my knee and TV I can still enjoy the time. So, I watch all the satellite and TV threads here to find the info relevant to our situation.

It has to be a cold day in hell to keep us indoors watching the idiot box If in town may buy the local paper or listen to the vehicle radio for the news

We're the same Jules. We often arrive home from a trip and find the TV has just collected dust on the cupboard. Half the time we have no reception, the other half we'd rather be outside or doing our own thing inside.

We do have music playing from the time we get , all day till about half way through the night, then whoever gets up to go to the loo first will turn it off!!! Couldn't live in a quiet motorhome - love to hear the variety of music we have on sticks!!!
