gas bottle change over tap

the change over tap on my van is getting very stiff to turn and i can sense a replacement becoming necessary

i have noticed that the two hoses ( flexible braded style ) and the thread that connects the tap to the regulator shows no sign of gas tape

is this normal and if so what is the sealing method used in assembly or do i have to replace tap and regulator as one unit

I would seriously suggest you have a Licensed Gas Fitter look at it. Apart from the fact that it is illegal for anyone but a Licensed Gas Fitter to work on the installation, there is the danger of gas leakage which can result in fire or leaking into the Van causing death. Just not worth it.

The flex hoses have a tapered seat and don't need sealant or tape

If you try to turn the change over valve whilst it is under pressure it will be stiff and you will stuff it.

Make sure all the gas is purged before turning the valve.

If unsure about the connections, paint them with soapy water to check for any leaks. (bubbles)

You will find with factory fitted change overs that they do have a sealant, it's like thread lock, painted on and it dries to seal any leaks.

I have recently changed the regulator and the tap - makes a huge difference. Can buy them at a hardware shop. Some come with copper pipe as well but too short for the van.
