Diesel donk flushing oil etc usage.

We are having a look at Cost Effective Maintenances web site as we have only ever just replaced the engine oil and have never tried a flushing oil concentrate.
We do get the car serviced for the major distance work, but just do the smaller 5000k, 10000k work ourselves.
Has anyone any experience or knowledgeable input with such technology etc. to give experienced advise on the topic please.
Cheers and thanks.

Mate I have been a diesel fitter for 40+ years and never flushed a diesel unless it went under water. Stick with your regular service intervals and all should be good. What vehicle is it.

Howdy Bayonet Madness,

Nov 1996 build 80 Series DX, 1HZ Diesel with after market AXT or is it ATX Turbo and is at around 345000k. The last 300000k have been quite heavy work, but done with conservative driving and includes towing heavy (3.5t) off road van for 80000k to Cape York, through the Gulf Country, up the Tanami Rd, across Gibb River Road, Channel Country, Northern Flinders and some of the Vic Alps regions. The service mechanic (very reputable business) tells me that the motor shows signs of 'Blow By'.

Thanks for your input.

Cheers

I have recently used the flushing oil and the de-glaze additive to the fuel. Now it may be totally unrelated but I used the flushing oil and then the de glaze because the engine that we had fitted was showing signs of blow by as it had been sitting for over 2 years and had only been started and idled in that time.

This engine had been supposedly fully reconditioned 30k ago. We did 2k after fitting and the engine had the No 1: exhaust valve drop the seat and it destroyed the piston and liner. So the engine is a write off. The bore still looks very glazed after 2k with the additive, But to be fair the engine had done 350k on the liners as the Mechanic who changed motors for us said that the engine had never been out the donor vehicle.

So yes we were scammed about the fact it was fully reconditioned, The head dropping the seat maybe a coincidence.

To the OP blow by is caused by rings not seating on the bore, Yes maybe the rings are stuck in the grooves on the pistons. But I think the flushing oil is more designed to get rid of the sludge in your engine. The de glaze would more be the product to stop blow by, But with 300k if the cross hatch has gone out of the bore due to wear then the de glaze will not solve your problem IMO.

The Mechanic who did the install recommended the Cost effective maintenance products as he said he had success with some Tractor engines. Would I pay the high price for this product again, I definite NO!!

Diesel oils have high detergents which clean the engine. If the oil is black? Its doing its job..
Doesn't pay to baby an engine during run in .. The rings DONT bed in properly..
The honing marks don't last much longer than 1000 klrs so it needs some work to wear the rings in..
Injectors may require a service ?? Could be dumping fuel ??

Hi, I understand that you may be looking for a cheap and easier alternative, cry but after 345 000 Kms of quite heavy work, (your words) the engine would be expected to show wear and some blow by would be the signs of that !  I fail to see the worth of a flush and de-glaze seems to be just a pipe dream. confuse

Spend the money on a proper rebuild. Additives have a limited place sometimes IMHO but rarely solve the basic problems of a motor if it has been properly maintained.

Look at the possibility of carbon deposit in the inlet manifold deposited by the EGR valve.

Rebuild it !! At least rings and bearings. My old Mitsi has cylinder liners .. It was fitted with new liners and pistons etc for just over $1000 plus bearings and oil pump.. Almost a new engine .. Pays to have family in the auto machinist industry ..

Much appreciation and many thanks to all responders to this topic.
Yes we are considering that rebuild may be in line and that this was information seeking to see if the flush method may have delayed such.
I have placed this same question on another forum as well and both forums back each other with helpful information and with general agreement.
It is a great joy to be involved with helpful, balanced and calm discussion on matters like this on this forum.
Cheers
