2 days ago we purchased fuel from the automated service station at Hughenden qlnd. It was hard to follow the directions and I inadvertently put in the credit limit on my credit card, this was declined and I have a receipt for $79 fuel we purchased. To my horror the nerxt day there was $12 thousand dollars taken from my credit card!!!!Rang the owner who said basically it was my mistake and I was stupid for not following the directions and the money would be refunded to my credit card within a week, when I said that there were other people there as well who could not understand the directions and maybe he should look at making them clearer he very rudely told me I was a stupid woman and hung up on me!!!! Rang back and it went to voice mail so I left a message stating I was the woman who he so rudely hung up on and I would be posting his rude obnoxious behaviour on every forum I could. So, my recommendation is NOT to frequent this automated service station!!!!!!
What a terrible thing to happen and to have to wait so long for a refund is disgusting.
I know that these credit card facilities can be very confusing. So far we have only come across the type where the ACTUAL fuel purchase is debited to the card and the limit you put in beforehand is only a maximum amount the pump will supply.
The type you used at this fuel supplier actually debits the amount you put in as the limit, and then refunds to you the difference if you pump less than that. It is a very bad system and one I hope we never have to use.
Thanks for letting us know about this place - we will avoid it like the plague if we are in that area.
Hindsight is great - you should have contacted your credit card supplier who would have cancelled or suspended the transaction on your advice.
We used one of these pumps some months ago and others (backpackers and an older couple) at the pump did not know how it worked either - fortunately a local truckie called in who used the pump all the time and showed how to use it.
Lack of PLAIN ENGLISH instructions are to blame especially when you are tired from driving long distances and worried that you need fuel.
I think from memory that there was a help phone number included in the "how to use" instructions but who reads everything.
Good Luck.
hi why don't u use cash I have a card but only a 1000 limit on it
but I must say I really don't understand the card thing
still a rip of is a rip off
enjoy
I don't get it surely you wouldn't have to disclose the actual limit, Like you would have an idea what it will cost and say add $50 max. I mean you could have a debit card and not be aware exactly what your balance is. I think the bottom line is to cover the purchase price.
@Murraman; no, you don't have to disclose your card limit, just the limit of dollars you wish to expend on your fuel purchase.
The bottom line is that Wendy stuffed up by misunderstanding the instructions so in effect asked to be supplied with up to $12,000 worth of fuel. In the circumstances I see no reason to not patronise this outlet. I bet Coffison and his sons had a good laugh and who could blame them.
I can't think of any circumstance where I would disclose my credit card limit when making purchases along the road.
Well Fuego, what a pity everyone isn't as smart as you and never make a mistake. And of course the fact that she did excuses the rude behaviour of Mr Coffison or one of his smart r's sons.
We are heading over that way in a couple of weeks and will make sure our tanks are not filled at that particular outlet.

Go to BP around the corner and pay 20c per litre more. You still have to pour it yourself and use your card when you pay but, as long as you have the money, what do I care.
