Can you load a boat onto the roof of a campervan?

Hi all.

Just doing some homework, and what better place to do it but here.

Can any of you tell me if it is possible to have a roof top boat loader on a camper van type of vehicle like a long wheel base Sprint? If it can, is it easy to use, and could you direct me to some images or videos please.

thank you in advance

Nat. smile

I don't know if you could get the caravan far enough into the water to slide it on .

There are a number of boat loader designs on the market, select the ones that you think would be suitable and ask the retailer if their loader is suitable for you

Hi Nat.

I am hardly an expert but to me if I were in you and in your circumstances may be suggest to your partner look at either a port a boat or I a blow up one, depends really about how much fishing he wants to do and Where. Should Bill come on the forum here answer your question listen to his advice carefully.

Maybe carrying some solar, portable or not and extra water would be better than carrying a boat up top ? It's a mix really don't you think?. No matter what you both decide life's a dream.

Peter

That is the main issue,,, the rest is a matter of choice,, ie rack, loader, size.

Many roof's of vehicles have very light ratings for roof racks etc

Hi all

Dennis and Yvonne .

Good response. I like it.

Peter.

I would not get in a blow up one, it took me over 12 months just to get the courage to get into a boat and go fishing, if we took a blow up on and somehow pout a hole in it I would just be beside myself. no

I suppose if there is a will there is a way, I just wanted to know first before we purchased a vehicle and then found out that we could not do it.

Thanks for all your input. It is all food for thought.

But if there is anyone out there who has actually accomplished this I would really appreciate if they could please let me know.

Nat.

Hi Nathalie

In a way you seem to be putting the cart before the horse from your last post you haven't as yet purchased your campervan, so it would not be possible to advise you if a boat loader would be able to be used to load a boat on to the top of your vehicle, there a number of boat loaders available some you need to use your own efforts to load the boat some use a battery powered drill lift the boat and some have a dedicated motor to built in to do the same, they all differ in some respects by either loading the boat from the rear or side.

Get a campervan then go on a few trips and possibly make a decision as to a boat or not and then a boat loader or not.

Go to boat or caravan or 4wd shows and there will be numerous examples of boats ,kayaks, canoes, inflatables, flat pack boats and boat loaders, then you will be in a better position, re deciding what is best for you and your interests as you travel.

By the way it is very difficult to put a hole in a quality inflatable they also have a number of separate compartments that are inflated with air and are more stable when out on the water than most other craft, it would be almost impossible to sink an inflatable, but they are not suitable to use in northern rivers and lakes but then again small alloy boats are also really suitable either.

Cheers

No seriously anything is possible if you go about it the right way . but of course weight is your greatest enemy and a lot of weight that high could be a problem.

Hi all

Thanks for your advise. I will go and do some more research into what David said.
Thanks for the info on the inflatables, I did not know that.

Have a good day.

Nat.

Our "inflatables" have seven compartments each.  They both roll up, and live in the pod of our 4WD. (and might I say, rarely get used)
