Can anyone give us advice on wikicamps. We are currently in Darwin, but the tablet/wiki thinks we are in Kununurra. For a long time it thought we were still in Perth, which is where we were when we bought the tablet. Any ideas on how to change the settings would be appreciated.

thanks WAssa41, went to location services, both options there (Google location service) and (location and google search) are already ticked. Next solution?

Tablets aren't all that smart, and often fail to look for locations all by themselves. We have two Android tablets that need to be refreshed, and an iPad that seems to refresh all by itself. If you tether your tablet and cycle through the location settings you may get it to update.
Turn the GPS function of the tablet on a it will track you movements a locations;same applies to the google maps it will be on your location when you open it
Also dont leave a searched location in the search window of wiki as it will remain on that area;clear the window.

Our tablet is an Android, Mr D is ready to toss it in the bin if we can't resolve issues with it. Wiki issue is first and foremost. Still thinks we are in Kununurra!

Don't give up. Tell us what brand of tablet you have and what version of Android OS you are running on it and you might get the input you need to get it going.

Thanks Berni, on the back of the tablet are the words "BioPad" Model No RSPB-315206, but under settings, says Model No RK30SDK, android version 4.1.1, kernel version 3.0.8+
None of this means much to us, but you may be able to decipher it.

Are you sure the tablet has GPS as with no GPS it will not work. Also you need to have a sim in the tablet. I notice my ipad has trouble finding where I am if in a building as it needs access to the satellites to figure out where I am. No different to a Car GPS.
I don't know (but I doubt) if the tablet does have a GPS, but even if it does not, how did it know we were in Perth, then Kununurra? As for a sim, we have never had a sim - does not come with one (we bought the cheap and nasty version), but the tablet does talk to our wifi.
We have tried taking it outside

Your tablet will not have a GPS card in it like your phone does. So to learn where it is, it needs to be connected by Wifi to something else. I'd guess that when you were in Kununurra you had it tethered to another device. Or maybe you were just at Maccas having a coffee and using their Wifi. Either way it got the information it needed. Since then it's been isolated so has no way of knowing where it is, or rather no way of knowing that it's moved.
This isn't a fault of the tablet. It's just the way it is. More expensive Androids have Sim cards so they get a location from the cell network. Yours obviously hasn't.
So boot the tablet, connect to a Wifi source, and let it refresh its location. If you have a mobile phone that can be used as a hotspot, then that's all you require. The phone knows where it is because it gets the information from the cell network. It will share this information with the tablet if you start WikiCamps when the tablet is connected to the phone.
We are constantly in touch with a WIFI. We have a Wifi hotspot on the caravan that the caravan talks to, so that is not the answer. We will continue to explore the issue.
thanks anyway KevinC

I have Wikicamps on an my Ipad which is not cellular, so it does not have the ability to connect to the phone towers and this is how these devises collect GPS data.
To get it to work while you are away from WIFI (if not Cellular), you will need a small portable GPS, mine cost around $140. It just sits on the vehicle dash and transmits data Via Bluetooth.
A couple of checks you could make are:
1. Go to Site Lists, remove All Filters and Select the Sort List and select "Closest To Me" from the Menu. It should sort sites from your current location.
2. Go to View Map and it should show your current location.
If either of these are not correct - I expect your Tablet is not filtering the data required from the Wi-Fi signal. If this is the I expect you will need a remote GPS device as long as you have Bluetooth.
I'm not sure whether to be happy or sad about all this. I'm sharing your pain. I have two Android tablets. Both have worked successfully with Wiki Camps previously. Tonight the Samsung Galaxy Note is behaving itself, but the other (cheap) tablet won't find its current location. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the application, as well as connecting to a variety of wifi sources, including home, cell phone and Aircard. No joy. Of course it remembered the last pin location used on our last trip, but now that I've reinstalled, that's gone too.
Looks like we both need the solution.
Firstly have you downloaded the data and maps for the states you travel in?
If not, when you are connected to WiFi that has plenty of download available, now on the home page tap offline content icon, this will take you to offline content, select whatever Australian States you require and download data and maps this take quite sometime to do.
Once you have done this you no longer need to be connected to the internet either by WiFi or the mobile network
Now go back to home page and tap on site list, you will now be on the site list page, along the top are 5 icons, tap on locations you should now have a small window titled "find a location"
Tap on city/ town search, now search for a town, in the search result, tap on Sort List from Here, you will now have all the data displayed for that town location.
If this doesn't solve your problem I don't think I can help any further.
Just don't do the search in the search bar that is at the top of the list page always do your search using the locations search icon
