We are in WA and are in the midst of converting a 1999 Toyota Coaster bus into a motorhome, and we are having trouble getting it insured, simply because we have done most of the conversion ourselves - cupboards, LED's, sink, bed. Of course we will get the stove done professionally, but the insurance companies want a valuation certificate. How have others in the same boat solved this please.

In Victoria I had to get an engineer"s certificate irrespective of who did the conversion and that certificate together with any other certification, gas & electricity plus the roadworthy certificate was needed to get the coaster registered.
Then contacted CIL and the insurance was made available.
There are professional vehicle valuers around so I suggest you check out the yellow pages in your area. You will also require a Certification from a Licensed Electrician and a Gas Certificate from a licensed Gas Fitter if you are installing gas.
Incidentally, I notice this is your first post. Welcome to the Forum.

howdy Benno, I don't know where in W.A. you are, so this info may be a waste of time but.
I was in the same spot of bother a couple of years back when we had our Coaster here in Perth,
First off, I got a certificate of valuation from Action R.V. which were in william street BECKENHAM unfortunately they have now closed this yard,
they do still operate another service yard in William street, which is on the opposite side of the street.
at that time it cost $ 50.00 for the Cert, it could be more now,
I found that the only person who was prepared to insure our Coaster ( because it was so old, 1977 ) was Ken Taine but only after I joined the
CMCA mob. yours being a far later model you may not have the same problem we had.
best of luck. K.J.

It is normal for insurance companies to want a valuation for a home made MH..
You could give Igor a ring at I and D Industries and he will get you to send him some photos of the conversion and a summary of what it has cost you then he will value it for you..
From memory I think he charges around $80 and his valuation is acceptable by most insurance companies..

Hi there Benno , I did my own conversion on our 83 coaster. In fact I have upgraded the old girl about 4 times usually after a big trip . Anyway we are in Victoria , all I did was register the coaster as a camper ( 12 years ago) got a written valuation and submit it to Ken Tame and all done . very happy.

I followed this procedure as well, then upon contacting CIL about insurance, I was able to send them photos, inside and out, then discussed what I thought it was worth. They in turn must have checked their files of simular vehicles...........that easy.
Thanks everyone for your input! We have managed to get it insured as panel van and will continue to re fit it and then probably contact Igor and also someone in WA for a comparison
Thanks again :) :)
