The only one I can think of off-hand is Bushy Parker Park, near Rollingstone, on the Bruce Highway.   But you guys are on the inland route aren't you ?

 I phoned the number for Bowling Green National Park to get info about Alligator Creek Campground Camps6 #43 only to get put onto a guy in Brisbane who knew nothing about the place and ended up suggesting that I get on to the internet to find the details. We have decided to meet up at the Roadhouse before the turnoff to the National Park and drive in to find out for ourselves.

As Doug has said I know the free camps better than most having been there for the past three years on the northward trip. Someone may have more info on other places and may be more aware of the Wikkicamps options than we are.

Also Bluewater is nominated as a 24 hour stopover in Camps7 and we were wondering if the ranger still does the Monday and Thursday checking and may be enforcing the 24 hour stay. I have been told that if the ranger notes your number plate for the second time he can write out a fine of $1500.

I have been into the Alligator Creek Camping Ground - I think in 2012.

I only did it as a day trip, leaving my van at the Nome Caravan Park. My van is too big to get into most National Parks 

The camp spots are definitely not "van friendly" - too small and difficult to manoeuvre into - I was glad I had decided to check it out first.

I am not sure what vehicles you are all travelling in/with ... but from what I can see of your bus Yeoeleven, it probably would not fit into a camp spot.

It is a very busy place. Backpackers love the place - a nice National Park (I took heaps of photos on each of the walks during my 7 hours there) with some good walks and a pretty creek.

Your suggestion to check it out first is a wise one. The "camp" shown as Alligator Creek Roadhouse in the Camps Book is about 3km north of the Bowling Green Bay Nat Park turnoff.

Hey Paul! I live in far north Qld in the small township of Cooktown. I hope to one day be a grey nomad. I am often researching and dreaming on the net and love reading of others adventures on the open road! For now I will remain housebound as a carer for mum who had a stroke and who will be 80 in January.

We are on 3 acres of rainforest just 3 mins from PO. If you are self sufficient with vehicle and wanted to drop in and stay on our block and do a little gardening we'd welcome you for a visit. Winter or mid-year is the best time to travel up north.

We called in to the National Park camp at Bowling Green but found it a bit too small and if Paul backed his caravan into one of the spots he would have to park his car in the official car park. Not at all convenient so we decided to chance it at Bluewater and here we are camped next to each other and likely to stay until Thursday morning.

I was able to find the Toll depot to collect the new 2.6KVA generator, there were three depots and a maintenance outlet all Toll and all in Toll Street. After several attempts I was able to find the right one and off to Bluewater.

Haven't read up and filled it up yet but tomorrow will get into it, the main thing is that I could fit it into the pace from the old one. I had measured it up carefully but often am a bit slack about the finer points but not this time. I now have a 1KVA Engel generator for sale and intend to put it out tomorrow with a price of $300 on a table next to the drive in.

Thanks for the tips Paul & Hazel, Bluewater is busy but not really a problem and after here we plan to visit Toomulla then Bushy Parker for the limit each. Had thought about Crystal Creek but have already stayed at Paluma NP and Jourama NP as well as Wallaman Falls. There is a post I will look up about camping at the wetlands at Ingham.   John

Great swimming in the creek also, might be a bit COOL at the moment but great in the warmer weather.

We are staying at my dads' place in Edmonton will be in Cairns for approx 3 -12 months, hope you are all travelling safely.

Hi to all, 

john and myself will certainly be making the most  of our time here in R/stone.

we  have  planed our time here. With a full itinerary .

john and I plan  to catch up on some good camping skills

over the next few days.

The water in the creek  is a tad cool , however it is 

worth trying a short dip in late afternoon.

The scooter picked up another flat tyre

 so we  are now  good at tyre repairs.
