Victorian national park camp fees

We are planning a trip from SE QLD thru NSW to SA, and returning thru VIC and NSW to QLD.

As we intended to stay in some national parks, I decided to check camping fees in Vic. It seems that the 2 of us staying in what is called a mid rated park would be charged  $37.80. If our stay was between November and April and we managed to avoid school holidays, long weekends and public holidays we would save 5%. There might also be a $10 booking fee.

I am not sure how a mid rating is defined, but I imagine it includes some type of toilets, water which might not be potable, maybe fireplaces, but not much more.

I am hoping someone can point out an error in my reading of the rate sheet because this seems to be taking the user pays concept a bit far. My reference was

All this prompted me to look at caravan park prices. There seems to be plenty of these offering powered sites and all the usual amenities of caravan parks for $30 or less. We dont usually enjoy caravan parks, so it seems we will have to choose our itinery very carefully.

Gday...

Attached is the table showing the various categories for park camping - and then armed with that the website below will assist in selecting a camp and fee.

I must admit, camping in National Parks almost all over this country is expensive if only a couple - or worse if a solo.

Cheers - John

The bottom line is they do not want us there. Firstly they close as much as possibile to keep us out of our country ;now they will price us out of the rest of whats left.

Considering they aquired all this land with our tax money a now we are not wanted in areas of our own country.

Its a discrase.

Hi,
if you are on a pension go to any national parks office in NSW (or maybe on the net) and ask about there free parks entry pass it helps a lot, in Qld its only about $5.95 P/P P/night but you have to book by phone or the net which is not always convent, I don't know about Vic.

In WA the fee for 2 Seniors is $13. I know of only 2 Gov parks which you have to prebook, all others are pay on site and first come first served.smile

Just remembered something..

2011 Yosemite's National Park[CA].. Camp grounds..

the fee's in 2011 were cheaper and I spent a few day's at different Camp's in the Park I think the Most I paid for anyone camp area was $10..

It was a very interesting trip...

Psst if you plan to travel in the USofA Make sure you get a "Park Pass" especially if you plan to visit many Parks while over there..

Gday...

I am not 100% sure of the date the "new fees" came into force, but I think it was from Jan 01 2014.

And those fees, and categories, are what Vic Nat Parks are now.

cheers - John

Hey Bryan

Maybe you started something with the thought of a GN Party...

After all  - with the info I saw the other day about GNs and RV Market  not to mention the over 65s
how much they now travel - Imagine if we got a;; of these to join and vote one way.
They could just stand on certain issues.. namely camping - aussies who live here travelling etc .
goverment assistance to aid more free camps etc...

If this market based on THIER figures was $6.5 Bil and Growing to $1.135Bil  -
we would have some real force in Government...  what do yu think???
The tourist industry would certainly love the GN party.....lol

Heres Hope...Maybe we should start this as a new topic....?

There are wombat holes in just about every state in this great country.

We have Sir Wombat and he could register each hole as his own and then be eligible for

the position. "Sir Wombat GN MP."
