Like many others I've spent a lifetime trying to loose weight, and still the kegs haunt me
Why am I telling you? . Well I'm not looking for sympathy or even a "she'll be right mate!" (although all encouragement will be appreciated ). The truth is I went to the Doctor the other day and he asked my what happened to the diet I was going to go on 6 months ago. Busted!! . Rather than spout all the rhetoric about why I should loose weight and what the Heart Foundation says, etc. He just asked me If I have heard of the 5:2 "Fast" Diet?
I remember seeing a BBC program on it sometime last year and it made a lot of sense at the time. Did I do anything about it...see line 1 .
Well I went and bought the book and re-aquainted myself on what it's all about. In a nutshell what you do is for 2 individual days a week you "Fast". What that means is you limit yourself to 500 calories for a woman or 600 for a guy for 2 days a week. That's it!! (I'm doing Mondays & Wednesdays)
There a whole book and many more on the science of it, etc. But it all seems to make sense and the Doc recommended it. So what have I got to loose ................ (sorry fatty joke there ).
There's diabetes, heart disease, and all the usual stuff in my family, and yes many of us have weight issues. I've been lucky. I've had blood pressure issues (hence the reason for going to the Doc) but for an old fat guy nothing else. I walk for an hour most nights of the week and my blood pressure has been good for a few years now.
So tomorrow is my first "Fast" day
If like me you've spent a lifetime fighting the flab, "what have you got to loose....(sorry did it again )". If your interested have a read on their website here - http://thefastdiet.co.uk/. Look for the books and I think there's some Youtube stuff on it as well.
Unlike previous diets I'm telling others I'm doing it.
So here goes
Jeff

Check this one out too Jeff, and good luck with the other one!
This one was devised by my heart specialist, it doesn't mean don't exercise but what you can do without exercise to loose weight if you have leg or other health problems, see;
Day 2 (Wednesday) survived as well. It almost seemed too easy, mind you keeping busy is a big key to it.
I'm taking it easy on the other days with no snacks, etc. So I hope I'm on the right track.
We had my son and daughter in law home for tea tonight so we had take out chicken. The diet book says on the non "fast" days you can basically have what you like, so it was interesting to "be on a diet" and to have a "Few" (and I mean only a few ) chips with the chook & salad. Amazing how good they tasted. I think that is also part of the "likeability" of this plan, I imagine there will be days when the fasting will be hard but there is always the thought of something nice only a day away.
Haha..listen to me waxing lyrical about a diet I've been on less than a week.
Anyway, I will see how I go. Thanks again

Sunday morning. My first weigh in day after my first week of the 5:2 fast diet.
The 2 fasting days passed remarkably well. Still its early days and I'm always good on "a diet" for the first few weeks. I'm sure it will get harder . The other days I've tried to be "good" without any sweet treats, biscuits, etc.
Still.......now to jump onto those dirty rotten lying bloody $%#$@$# scales (can you tell I've dieted before )
This is usually when I forget that I'm on a diet and sometime later remember what a baaaad boy I am (again ).
Well all I can say is "How easy is this".
Yes I have fasting days that are harder than others (the trick seems to be to keep busy on those days), but really I feel I have control of what's going on, I'm not irritated by the constant "That looks nice" (CAN'T HAVE THAT!!!), "That is yummy" (CAN'T HAVE THAT!!), "That smells great" (CAN'T HAVE THAT!!), etc. I have worked out what I can have on the fasting days and I just stick to it. The other days I just take it easy, but if I have a day where we go out for a meal or something nice is on offer I just tuck in and enjoy it!
Well I just stepped onto the scales. My weight loss is ...................... 5.8Kg
Very, very chuffed with myself
Jeff

There's a little Women's Weekly recipe book out called '2 Day Diet' which has recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the fasting days. Some good suggestions in it.
Well done Kendo. Keep it up.
This is now officially the longest I've sustained a diet in many many years, and I'm finding it quite easy.
Yes there are days when the fasting can be hard, but less and less so.
I went to an all day work sponsored conference last week at Glenelg and then went for dinner at a nearby restaurant. The food (and wine) was excellent. This was to be a fasting day, so all I did was to fast on another day, and I still lost weight
After many years of tight cloths, I'm enjoying the sensation of wearing baggy stuff. Looks like a new summer wardrobe might be in the offing

Yes, it seems like it's a good 'diet' - or way of eating. Well done. You'll soon find it so natural that it won't even feel like a 'diet' (don't like that word). Keep it up.
Well Done mate, good going hope the rest of your diet go's as well. I have been layed up in hospital; for 6 weeks and lost 11.5 kgs. Not the best way to loose weight but a loss is a loss and I will take it.
Just need to drop about 10 more and I'LL be sweet, But in saying that I don't want to go back to hospital
these super bugs are a worry
Cheers

Yup a (long or any) trip to hospital is not the way you want to loose weight. I hope you get better soon.
I'm amazed at this. It just makes soooo much sense to me. 2 days of fasting (ie. <600calories a day) each week (3 if I want to chuck in an extra). If it's a "hard" day it not really cause a feed is only another day away. If family or mates turn up for a BBQ & and a few quiet ones then you just get on with it and adjust your fasting days to suit.

Off for the annual "Service and checkup" (Blood test) this Monday. Funny I'm actually looking forward to seeing what the results may be this time round.
Weight loss is only one of many benefits of this way to eat. I find it easy to do after soooooo many "diets" over the years failed.
Interested in finding out about the 5:2 Fast diet? Have a look >> here <<

The Driver's doctor told him to try the 5:2 diet. In 3 weeks has lost 3/4 stone. Blood sugar has dropped from 8 to 6.2.
As an idea, the last fast day was Breakfast: small bowl of oatmeal porridge; mid morning snack: small mandarin; lunch: soup bowl filled with lettuce, celery, carrot, tomato, alfalfa sprouts, red capsicum, red onion, cucumber salad, with couple of teaspoons of white balsamic vinegar over it. Dinner was 2 turkey mince patties, with a bunch of steamed asparagus. He has enough calories to spare to have a whisky and water nightcap. He drinks water and black coffee and black tea.
For those people who are watching their blood sugar levels, some pharmacies will sometimes have personal monitoring devices (eg Accu-Check) costing around $45 - $60 with an equivalent cashback offer, so that the net cost is $0. The catch is the cost of the testing strips or tapes, but these are covered by PBS.
