Your right dibs.Even the old rigs where free wheel hubs were std the reduction in wear a tear;noise a the improved fuel econ were all there.

Why go back to a fixed system or even auto lock when you engage 4x4 is against common sense.

Guess its like every thing else these days;push button. Creats lazy fat people. In the old tojo I always used low 4x4 with hubs out for parking the van etc.

Don't know where it is on a Colorado but on my PK Ranger there is relay near the brake booster that I unplug when I want low range 2 WD, pretty simple or you can put a switch in power side of the connector and mount switch in the cabin.

G'Day Dibs,

I've got a 2011 Colorado 4x4 Auto, and came across the free wheel hubs threads some time ago. It seems the "easy as" 4WD buttons on the dash only disconnect one axle leaving the other wheel still driving the shaft and sun gears etc in the diff, creating parasitic drag when you're tootling down the highway. I put free wheel hubs on and they're saving me 1 litre/100Km towing a 2 tonne Van. Dropped from low 15's to low 14's. Best $260.00 I have spent in a while. You can actually feel the difference in how the vehicle drives on the road.

Regards,

hi guys
well i fitted em today and like mike said best $$$ spent $180 for me . felt it as soon as i drove out the shed popped low range crawled straight out .(jc knows it ) ripped up the end of the street and did a ue no scuffing from the tires just straight round cut about 18 inches of the turning circle . now i can pull low rang for those not needed low 4x4 situations just a bit of low range . also had the 3 stage springs put in the other day and draws a few weeks before that not much to do now . finding it hard to find a bull bar mob that will ut in a haymon tow hitch in it .
