This is typical weather for this time of year but winds may cause damage to homes and make travel dangerous.

WHAT TO DO:
DFES has these tips to help you and your family stay safe: 
Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows  
Unplug electrical appliances and avoid using landline telephones if there is lightning 
If caught outside find safe shelter away from trees, powerlines, storm water drains and streams
If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.  

IF DRIVING:  
Do not drive into water of unknown depth and current 
Slow down, turn your lights on and keep a safe distance from other drivers 
Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen powerlines and loose debris 
 
WEATHER DETAILS: 
As at 10.44am on Saturday 21 June 2014 the Bureau of Meteorology advises a strong cold front has moved over Cape Leeuwin and will continue to move east to lie near Perth to Albany early afternoon and near Southern Cross to Esperance this evening. 

The front will weaken as it moves further east out of the warning area and also over western and northern parts of the warning area later Saturday afternoon and evening. 
 
The passage of the cold front across the region will produce squally conditions with the chance of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. Squalls may cause locally dangerous winds in excess of 125 kilometres per hour that could cause significant damage or destruction to homes or property in localised areas. 

The risk of dangerous winds decreases rapidly after the cold front has passed through, and conditions should ease from the west during Saturday afternoon and evening.

A wind gust to 83 kilometres per hour was recorded at Cape Leeuwin at 10am this morning.

After a storm State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers make temporary repairs to homes that have been badly damaged, such as roofs that have been ripped off or large fallen trees on homes and cars. Please contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs.
